Pap Saine And Conateh Are Sellouts- Alleges Gambian Security Agent!!
…..Jammeh’s Award Marks The End Of Press Freedom In Gambia
By John Justice, Banjul
Dear Editor,
Banjul:7/30/08-First of all I must reveal that I was told by a fellow officer
in Banjul few weeks ago that President Jammeh has nominated some people to be honoured. The officer mentioned few in the media including Pap Saine, but later on few individuals were stricken off from the list. The excuse was that they were not loyal to the President. Sadly, Pap Saine and Conateh were included in the final list proving the end of press freedom in our mother land.
We don’t care about the honouring of government supporters like the well-known Jammeh's praise singer Fatou Jahumpha-Ceesay who once said she preferred Jammeh than her own husband. Remember that the Speaker's husband Masaanneh Ceesay was found guilty of corruption by the Commission of Inquiry. We also don’t care the honouring of untrained, unprofessional officers such as IGP Badjie and the Immigration boss based on tribalism and biasness.
Again, we in the Force already knew such bias and tribalism is currently happening inside all departments but most especially in the security force. However the saddest is that these two journalists namely Saine and Conateh have violated the journalistic Code of Conduct clearly indicating that they are not impartial and neutral and simply disgraced themselves. Hope the Gambia Press Union will react when journalists are among the enemies of this corrupt and despotic violent regime.
The late Deyda Hydara has been betrayed and the presidential award means the end of free press in the country.
Thank you for your excellent job. We are so proud of you trying to help in the liberation struggle. We will never disappoint you people because we are in the same struggle.
