Banjul: 7/31/08-As economic and political uncertainties hit
Gambians, a nominated member of the National Assembly Oley Sey presented a bad check to the Bwiam Lodge, which attracted an angry reaction from the officials of the lodge. The disgraced MP, has been engulfed in a financial impropriety, as there are no funds in her Trust Bank account. Bwiam Lodge officials have confronted the MP over such a gross misconduct. Our Correspondent Ansumana Jammeh has the rest of the story and he now reports from Banjul.

Mrs. Oley Sey a nominated National Assembly Member has apparently faltered to pay back a debt she owes to Bwiam Lodge.Mrs.Sey accumulated the debt some three months back during the Roots Home Coming Festival in Banjul, when she took some guests to the aforesaid lodge and told them that she would give them a check with a view to settle the bill she owes the lodge.
According to our Official sources the nominated National Assembly Member failed to give Bwiam Lodge its money as initially promised. Later, she gave the Lodge a check to go and withdrew some money from Trust Bank Gambia Ltd.
However, the check Mrs.Sey gave turned out to be false, thereby making it impossible for Bwiam Lodge to get their money.
Further investigation conducted by this Paper revealed that despite Bwiam Lodge frequently getting in touch with the nominated National Assembly Member, but until now she has not yet settle the bill.
It is now understood that Mr.Lamin Sarr, the Deputy Manager of the Lodge has resorted to sitting at the National Assembly complex reception in his attempt to meet Mrs. Oley Sey with a view to get their money.
Clearly, the failure of the nominated National Assembly Member to pay the debt has created a mistrust between Mr.Sarr, the Deputy Manager and his boss who is said to be a Mauritanian national.
When Mrs.Oley Sey and her guest spent some nights at the said Lodge, the manager was out of the country and the Deputy Manager Mr.Lamin Sarr presided over the whole deal.
This rather unscrupulous behavior by the said National Assembly Member has undoubtedly raised eyebrows over her integrity and honesty. It has also triggered a debate over who should or not become a member of the Gambia's National Assembly.
Despite President Jammeh's administration priding itself as corruption free, it is quite shocking to note that such dubious activity is happening under his very own nose with him showing no sign of taking action.
