Our National day will never die! July 22nd will erode.
Before some of us were born incuding President Jammeh two celebrations existed in The Gambia, during and after colonial rule.We had the THE EMPIRE DAY.This was a major event Gambians celebrated as people under colonial rule.Empire day existed until 1965 when Sir Dawda became the first Gambian born leader after the British left.
That was the beginning of Independence day celebrations. That was the day when we stopped singing GOD SAVE THE QUEEN.That was the day when the Union Jack flag was folded and was never again going to represent The Gambia our home land.We then embraced our own national anthem and our own national flag.
These past days were so lively, children marched passed Sir Dawda on the dias while he kept on smiling in his pale blue African dress.I can still hear the echoeing voices of those school children at MacCarthy Square. Sure every country has its past and present. Our past is not empty,it is full events and occasions.
Sir Dawda led us through 1970 when The Gambia became Republic of The Gambia.
This was the very year The Gambia introduced a new currency ie the dalasi, butut and others.Sir Dawda realised the dangers of tribalism so he chose 'butut' from wolof and 'dalasi' from Mandinka.
He made mistakes but he also scored in some ways.
In all this Sir Dawda never changed the Feb 18th to the day we had our Republic. He could have done so justifiably, but he respected our national day.
Now we see Jammeh trying to reduce our national day to nothing, because he over threw our country's founding father? This is a big shame! July 22nd as an event is far lower than The Republic's day let alone our Independence day.How on earth can Jammeh think about substituting a national day with a day he staged a coup d'etat?Sir Dawda was not a colonialist. He was a Gambian born ruler.Jammeh has to know that it easier for anyone to remove his name from Gambian history than removing Sir Dawda's.This is the reality.
Hate him or like him Jawara did not over threw anyone. He did not shed blood to gain Independence. So we should at least honour him in one way or the other as the founding father.
Coming in from the cold..Jammeh is fake! Peace has been with us well before his latest strides...
There is no harm in Jammeh calling Jawara his guest of honour during an Independence celebration. Particularly after forcefully stealing power from the old man for 12 years. Instead in 2006 here we have President Jammeh calling Nino Veira and General or Colonel" Vall of Mauritania his guests of honour? Whereas Jawara came into the stadium he built sneaking like the criminal when Jammeh is the one playing foul.To the surprise of many Jawara was not even applauded? Certainly if Gambians knew he was coming in there,Jammeh would have been reduced to a nobody before the cheering crowd. Camon President Jammeh look at the mirror and shave your hairy being please.
Anyway Jawara is there and Lamin Kiti Jabang was also there, now would President Jammeh ever come attend a celebration with someone who overthrew him? This means Jammeh came with trouble and he is the one trying to expunge the same trouble after feeling that he maybe sent out of the state house.
Gambians knew peace well before seeing Jammeh.
Jammeh should have decorated Jawara before those visiting Presidents and Gambians at least. This is what some of us call reconciliatiotory moves. Not what he is doing to gain popularity before the AU meeting.
Jammeh has to know that he can never would have never erased Feb 18th from our minds. July 22nd is a disgrace for democracy so it should not be celebrated. It should be remembered as a day of horror and sorrow and thats it.
It is even painlful to see some of our sons and daughters trying to give credit to Jammeh for having rejuvinated Feb 18th? What a shame on these people! What a shame! President Jammeh was forced by every possible historical reason to celebrate this event with grandeur. He did not win.Gambians have won and history has won.
Baba Jobe's video tape at Mile Two...
When Baba Jobe was taken to Mile Two about two years ago President Jammeh asked his men to film Jobe while he was putting on his prison uniform for the first time.People say Jammeh received the tape with laughter. He was swinging on his leather chair in his office laughing at Jobe.Well Jammeh after a while are you going to pardon Jobe these days? If you pardon him..are you going to watch the tape with him?
President Jammeh there are people who have reserved tapes for your day too.We are expecting to see you remove your big bubus while being caged in the same Mile Two.
Yesterday as I was passing by Mile Two I remembered Jobe for a while.I remembered his active roles in promoting your madness in Banjul.Today I can imagine Jobe's face in that dark cell.Jammeh how do you discuss Jobe's issue with Lady Zeinab, knowing the role he played in arranging your marriage with her?
Did Zeinab Jammeh elope before...?
President Jammeh please do not take any offence out of what we write regarding your wife. She is married to our President thats why.Remember no one would have called Zeinab a first lady if she were to continue working as a hotelier in Tripoli.
Rumours are rife that Zeinab has been eloping to Morocco at any time you fight with her. People say that Amadou Samba is the God Father who helps make the peace between the two of you when ever she goes home angry. It is also said that you pay huge ransoms to bring her back.
True or false we want to know? Do not tell us this is personal. She is a first lady so there no personal life for her in this case. You know that.If there is any personal life for you why can't you openly say who your girl friends are at the moment?
As president every aspect about your life should be monitored. That is why people talked about the Clinton/Monica secret 'blue movie'
This is why we want to know if Zeinab is a fly-by-night wife?
If she is then Mr President why not you stop the escapades before it reveals worse details about you as our head of state?
Prez the baby sitter we heard said a lot you know!
Anyway the choice is yours Prez, believe me we have heard a lot.
We are yearning to see you at the Independence Stadium Sir.Or will you simply brush it off again as if our national day is nothing?
