Government Asked Management To Provide Information Regarding  Financial State of Gamtel-Gamcel

All is not cool  and dandy with Spectrum, the  new co-owners of Gamtel-Gamcel, as The Gambia Government is threatening to end its contract with the Lebanese-based telecommunication company. In a rather nonchalantant move,  the government yesterday pressed the management of Spectrum to provide them with concrete information regarding the financial state of Gamtel-Gamcel  within 72-hours or risk to face dire consequences.  Spectrum has been accused of withholding financial information pertaining the company. The Gambian authorities might as well call it a day with Spectrum, as well placed sources say Spectrum’s joint business partnership with the Government would be terminated soon.

According to a press release from the Office of the President, the government is worried about the poor performance of Gamtel and its sister company Gamcel.  The release also elucidated that complains reaching the authorities indicated that since Spectrum took charge of Gamtel-Gamcel the quality of the services have drastically decreased.

" The Spectrum  management has woefully  failed to deliver on the terms and conditions of the agreement entered with the Gambia government and hence the government is ready to call it a day," says an official of Gamtel.

Meanwhile , the release stated that the public would be informed accordingly of any new development on the issue.

Well placed sources close to the  corridors of power say the regime is currently faced with acute cash shortages. Sources say the proprietors of Spectrum would have their assets seized and declared persona non grata by the Government. “ This case reminds me about the Carnegie mining company. Charlie Northfield,  was arrested  under similar circumstances. Spectrum too will face the music. That’s Jammeh. He uses you  and dumped you. This Government is broke. I give them two months, they will be unable to pay salaries. There is no money at the Treasury. How can you run a Government, when there is no money? All our accounts are in the red. ”said an official of the President’s office.
