How About If God Ends Jammeh’s Gov’t Tomorrow?-Scales Asked
…As Scales Raises Pertinent Questions About Jammeh’s Future Replacement!!!!!
“The various commentators on The Gambian " condition " collectively criticise the Jammeh regime, but fail constantly to say what should replace him and what the change would bring. Without this manifesto, the argument persists as almost irrelevant and mere conjecture,.” Michael Scales Writes from England
Dear Mr. Editor,
If the "hand of God" conspired to remove the APRC from the political landscape of The Gambia tomorrow morning…..The question remains what would God leave in its place by the afternoon? Would The Gambia's new Government find its niche' in the Western style of Democracy or would it be just waiting for the next coup de eta? Whether you like Jammeh or not, one thing you have to give him is respect for the way in which he has consolidated power. The various commentators on The Gambian “condition " collectively criticise the Jammeh regime, but fail constantly to say what should replace him and what the change would bring. Without this manifesto, the argument persists as almost irrelevant and mere conjecture.
Hats off to Jammeh for his control of the the GNA and The Gambia's infamous intelligence services. Broad smiles at the way he woos the female voter through their empowerment. Much kudos to the speech writers that have elevated him to an International icon of controversy. His "in your face" style of leadership could be greatly admired as a breath of fresh air, if it were not for the "baggage" of unresolved claims of deaths disappearances and torture that litter the 14 years of his " coming ."
For anyone privileged to walk the steamy corridors of power, the stark reality is that Jammeh rules ok !!! and the rest are merely dogs held firmly on the straining leash. Quite a coup for a lowly uneducated army officer. In fact, quite remarkable by any stretch of the imagination.
As the join the list coupists follow his example in West Africa...we British have a saying that describes this phenomenon to a tee....".The tail is now wagging the dog."
Having spent endless hours in the company of his former Ministers, many there by right and higher education, I was left with the feeling that somehow the cart was leading the horse. This was strange for an Englishman used to being dominated by superior intelligence and undoubted experience of my peers. The World stands on its head in West Africa as the opportunists walk into High Office without so much as a "by your leave" So much so that the British diplomats I met did not have a clue how to do business with them as of course. The British diplomatic corps had hardly changed for two hundred years. The Home Office is "unfit for purpose" followed closely by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office...led by David Miliband, branded a novice by Gorden Brown. David is noted for being the one that ducks when the audience claps, a ploy he learned from George W. Bush ...he of the size 10 brigade.
George was heard to say he didn't fancy a deck chair by the sea wearing an Hawaiian shirt for his retirement. Rumours have it he is to open a shoe shop with Tony Blair as his Branch Manager. He should call it " try for ten" ?
Meanwhile, back at the Ranch...The Americans were seen to abstain last week at The U.N. when the call for a cease fire at Gaza was called for. The Americans export of "shock and orr" has been sold to Israel to great effect.
As with Iraq, the invaders will have no sympathy for the population once the nations infrastructure is flattened. How incredibly sad to hear the little Palestinian girl lament of the death of her 5 sisters as the bombs were falling all around. She didn't even duck as she explained...." we are used to this " This for us is normal " AS the bombs are normal in Gaza..so the coupists are normal in West Africa....Eager to get the wealth of the 15% at the expense of the 85% that continue to exist in their unchanging and failing condition. It therefore remains an insult to democracy to give any credibility to the political opposition.
They should be called the silent also ran of obscurity. The gun rules in Africa as the armed robbers move up to take power by force in the Highest Office.
Thank God for The West...... and God save West Africa. The World is powerless to help you. We have our own problems just now.
I remain Michael..U.K.
