Shame On Jammeh!!!!
….Jammeh Can only Be Removed By A Coup
It Is A Waste To Sponsor The Gambian Opposition
We were taken aback, when Gambia’s President Yahya Jammeh shamelessly condemned the recent military takeover in Guinea Conakry. Jammeh lacks the moral authority to condemn coups. He seizes power through unconstitutional means and therefore Mr. Jammeh should be the last person to preach about democracy. Jammeh is equally a criminal, who undermined our national constitution through forceful means of changing a democratically elected Government, led by the erstwhile Gambian President Jawara. Yahya Jammeh should shut up!!! He is no better than the Guinean mutineers. Here is the kettle calling the pot black. What a shame!!!!
If coups are illegal as argued by our loud mouth President, then why in the first place did he Jammeh waged a coup against the 30 year PPP rule? What is difference between the Guinean coup and that of the coup he led in July of 1994? If Yahya Jammeh is dump and retarded, Gambians are not. We are closely following his utterances and comportment. 14 years ago, the same Yahya Jammeh defended coups and its perpetrators and how come such a sudden U turn?
Jammeh has tasted power and he does not want to relinquish his portfolio gracefully. He is now pretending as a DEMOCRAT, when he is an enemy of democracy. Jammeh would do whatever it takes to solidify himself in power. If it means killing the entire Gambian population, he wouldn’t hastate to do it. That’s Yahya Jammeh. He is very selfish and wicked.
Under Jammeh’s evil world, coups should now be a thing of the past, when he had sponsored Casamance rebels to wage an armed resurrection against the Wade administration. Jammeh is still sponsoring MFDC fighters to cause havoc and mayhem in the Southern province of Casamance. He provides both financial and material support to the rebels. The high presence of Casamance rebels in Gambia is a glaring example of his Government’s support to the MFDC rebel faction. Banjul is a save-heaven for MFDC fighters.
In view of his direct involvement on the Casamance crisis, how can Jammeh claimed that coups are illegal? The same Yahya Jammeh is involved in the sale and trafficking of narcotic drugs in the sub-region. He was also implicated in the UN Diamond and arm trafficking scandal, in which he Yahya Jammeh, Baba K Jobe and other war criminals were accused of fueling the Liberian decade long war. Jammeh’s own new Millennium plane was used to facilitate the trafficking of the illicit diamonds and arms in the sub-region.
It’s an insult to the intelligence of Gambians and that of the civilized world for Yahya Jammeh to hide in the name of democracy to chastise the Guinean coupists. There is nothing Jammeh can do at this hour to legitimize his leadership. He is presiding over an unconstitutional Government, even though he was voted into office through a “sham” and fraudulent elections.
It’s our firm belief that only coup can remove Yahya Jammeh from power. We do not want to see a replica of the July 22nd coup, but the truth be told replacing Jammeh through democratic means is a forgotten conclusion. Jammeh had a total monopoly of the electoral process. And under the current political dispensation, we do not foresee leadership changes in the long-term through electoral means.
The Gambian opposition are just there to legitimize the Jammeh Government, through election participation, but in reality the conditions for free and fair elections do not exist in The Gambia. It’s a waste of “resources” and time for anyone to fund The Gambian opposition, because there is no way that they can win an election under the current prevailing political climate.
To our hardworking Gambians in the Diaspora, we say suspend all future opposition fundraising activities, until democracy is fully restored in The Gambia. It’s unwise to sponsor parties, which pose no serious threat to the incumbent Yahya Jammeh.
It is our firm belief that such funds could be used to sponsor victims of human rights violations, currently pursuing international remedies against the Jammeh dictatorship. Extending financial help to families whose loved ones are currently detained by the dictatorship would also go a long way in wiping their tears. How about setting up a Government in absentia that would redirect the affairs of the country, through a massive campaign to highlight Gambia’s plight to the civilized world. Such a campaign, would go a long way in alerting investors and donors about The Gambian story. Please do not take this honest and candid view of ours as a mockery. We are merely speaking our mind.
We are contributing our own quota here at Freedom through the dissemination of factual, accurate and balanced news. We are serving Gambians to the best our ability. We are pleased to report that the world is now listening.
Finally, we call on Gambians to join us in denouncing Yahya Jammeh’s recent statement against his Guinean coupist brothers. Jammeh lacks the moral principle and authority to condemn coups. Once a criminal always a criminal. Yahya Jammeh is a criminal hiding in the name of Democracy and Governance.
