More Condemnation Against Jammeh’s Anti Coup Speech!!!
…EX Junta Spokesman Calls For Legitimate Struggle To Remove Jammeh
Time to Confront the Dictatorship
“Now there is no question that Yahya Jammeh is a hopeless leader interested in nothing other than his selfish aggrandizement,.”argues Captain Alhagie Kanteh
Mr. Editor you said: “Finally, we call on Gambians to join
us in denouncing Yahya Jammeh’s recent statement against his Guinean coupist brothers. Jammeh lacks the moral principle and authority to condemn coups. Once a criminal, always a criminal. Yahya Jammeh is a criminal hiding in the name of Democracy and Governance.”
I can’t agree more that Professor Jammeh, as he is now falsely referred to, “is a cooking pot calling the kettle black” for volunteering to head the anti-coup crusade within the community of nations and by condemning the intervention in the Republic of Guinea. Indeed, you could not have put it better when you questioned his credentials as a democratic leader interested in peace at a time, when The Gambian people continue to cry foul of the dictatorship that forced the country’s best brains into exile, killed scores of perceived enemies (both civilian and military), muzzled the press and independent opinion, and established a fascist stranglehold on the lives of his fellow countrymen.
Your call on Gambians in the Diaspora who wish to sponsor the return of democracy and the rule of law to that country, to redirect their energies and resources on a new set of tactics in tackling the dictatorship, cannot be overemphasized. Democracy is a field of play where only those who adhere to the rule of the game should participate. A dictator can be a very strange bed fellow in this exercise. Indeed, Jammeh does not believe in democracy, nor does he abide by its principles. He is, if anything, an irredeemable scoundrel who needs to be tackled by all means necessary and available to Gambians.
The political undercurrents in Guinea before the death of President Lansana Konte were fraught with a number of possibilities including civil conflict at its worst, and the possibility of the Konte henchmen grabbing power in continuation of same old repressive and divisive policies of their godfather. It remains to be seen whether the new leadership will be true to design or would renege on its promises. We can only hope that these men would follow the Malian and Nigerian examples for the advancement of Guinea.
Unless Jammeh is showing signs of Alzheimer’s (only that this is a disease of the highly intelligent), he has lost memory too quickly. Arrogance has the tendency to cloud intelligence where it exists and reduce productivity. Giving himself titles like “Dr”, “Prof” does not change reality: he came to power through the barrel of the gun quite contrary to the dictates of the rule of law. For such a man to champion the fight against military take-over is synonymous with selfishness and greed? A leader that thrives on pathology of deceit and immorality can inspire no one.
Now there is no question that Yahya Jammeh is a hopeless leader interested in nothing other than his selfish aggrandizement. Like you said Mr. Editor, even if this should cost the entire population of our people genocide or crimes against humanity, the dictator is prepared to sink the nation for his own survival. I am personally not convinced that the majority of our people are fully aware of the magnitude of the problem we face with.
Mr. Editor, this is just a quick response to your clarion call for unity and responsiveness to the recklessness of the authority that be in our country. The arguments are gradually shifting in favor of legitimate struggle, in all its forms against brutality, irresponsibility and ignorance perpetuated by the devil that we call President. Let us make no mistakes, unless we are prepared to face Jammeh from a position of strength to assert our legitimate aspirations, we would be taken for a ride for a very long time to come.
“Dr” Jammeh has said it loud and clear, that if Gambians failed to vote him into office, demons would. He had vowed never to hand over to the current opposition leadership even if that was the mandate of the people, referring to them as a National Association of Donkey Drivers. Who among us is with any illusion that Jammeh will respect the will of the people if that goes against him? The simple truth is that Jammeh will never be removed from power through the ballot box. The opposition parties can make a miraculous coalition, receive 99% of the total vote cast, Jammeh will not budge. Need convincing? Be patient. Dear reader, if this sounds incredible to you, I apologize. It is just an opinion and hope it turns out to be a lay prediction.
It is said that desperate situations call for desperate measures. Time to confront Jammeh! Bless the courageous Editor!
