EX Junta Spokesman Felicitates Freedom!!!
Kanteh Says Sheriff Bojang Is An Honourable Man!!!
… “Going by some of the comments sent in to your good office, I agree that there is room for improvement in both style and substance. This year should see less intrusion into personal space, especially of private individuals. Here the plight of the former MD of Daily Observer Sheriff Bojang and the case of Mr. Sarjo Jallow Ambassador to AU, come to mind. These are honorable people whose private lives, regardless of their political leanings, need to be respected. This is where we need to be different from Jammeh and Co. that we vehemently criticize for childish witch-hunt, slander and character assassination of perceived enemies. “Freedom” stands above these. It envisions a totally free country for all; a Gambia in which no person shall suffer unduly without recourse to redress,.”said Kanteh.
Dear Editor,
On the third anniversary of the iconic and legendary Freedomnewspaper.com please accept my heartfelt congratulations and best wishes .It takes great courage and sacrifice to spearhead and continue to maintain such a vocal medium amidst threats of all kind, as pepper tigers and enemies of press freedom remain defiant to natural law of justice.
“Freedom” has demonstrated that the battle for hearts and minds can not be won by brute force as practiced by enemies of progress, but through information and education.
How else could a people who wish to break free of oppression take meaningful strides into history without uncensored information outlets like Freedom, which against all odds provides the information the people would have otherwise not had access to? For those who fear the power of this paper does so knowing that this is part of the voice of the future; the future of the country. The regime in our country is allergic to independent opinion, without which no vibrant democracy can thrive.
In the Gambia today information is controlled and monopolized by the state and its agents as if it has an answer for every concern that the people may express - the climate of healthy and civil discourse has long dissipated and the people are left with no choice but to scavenge for the “other side”. Where the Gambia television can’t even properly entertain the nation’s children because of a psychopathic leader’s thirst for extravagance and misplaced priorities, the online news outlets have become more relevant than ever.

But of course this is not to suggest that careless and shameful conducts like the one by our President, of sponsoring beach parties for foreign girls at the expense of the Gambian tax-payer, is to go unreported, at a time the average is struggling to make ends meat, should be swept under the carpet.
I also believe that the time has come, pending availability of resources, to include for the benefit of those who may wish to express themselves differently to be able to do so conveniently. Columns on Arts, Literature, Opinion, Entertainment etc. should be created in the reading list.
The Freedom Newspaper is making all the difference in the lives of the people across the country and in the Diaspora, for becoming a rallying point for the clamor of change. In this noble task you are not alone. We shall stand shoulder to shoulder until the job is done; the country liberated. Liberation which will never come without a price, shall see the dawn of anew era of not broken promise, but true accountability, and fundamental freedoms. These we live for and these we shall die for.
Happy anniversary! Long live Freedom Newspaper! Long live freedom of expression! Kudos Mr. Editor!
