GMC Party.”-Alhagie Ceesay Tells The Freedom Newspaper!!!

Even though the Independent Electoral Commission, the nation’s main electioneering body identified him as the new spokesman for The Gambia Moral Party (GMC), Alhagie Ceesay is distancing himself from Mai Fatty’s party, saying that he has no ties with the said political establishment. Ceesay’s denial, followed numerous enquiries received by the Freedom Newspaper, regarding the composition of the GMC party Executive Membership. The GMC party, under the leadership of Gambian Barrister Mai Fatty, is not willing to share the names of the party’s Executive, even though this paper had in the recent past contacted them via email to help release the names of the individuals behind Gambia’s newest opposition party. The GMC’S silence raises more doubts in the minds of Gambians, regarding the legitimacy of their party, thus leading to speculations that the GMC is another “ BOGUS GHOST.”party formed to collect funds from unsuspecting donors. Gambians are reacting cautiously about the birth of the GMC party. Many here say unless Fatty and his partners assured the public that the GMC is not a fraudulent party, questions regarding the party’s legitimacy shall continue to rife.
Speaking to our reporter this morning, both the IEC Chief Executive officer Mr. Secka and Chairman Mustapha Carrol said Alhagie Ceesay was the GMC’S spokesman in The Gambia. But the IEC officials declined to make further comments saying that it was only Mr. Ceesay who could release the names of the GMC Executive. The IEC officials said their records shows that Mr. Alhagie Ceesay was the party’s spokesman, a statement vehemently rejected by Mr. Ceesay himself.
Contacted for his side of the story, Alhagie Ceesay emphatically denied having any ties with Mai Fatty’s party. “ I have nothing to do with Mai Fatty’s party. I am not the party’s spokesman. I am not in the position to tell you the Executive Members of the GMC,.”Ceesay said.
But the Freedom Newspaper was reliably informed that Mr. Ceesay and one Alhagie Saja Fatty were among the Executive members of the GMC, a party whose legitimacy is now a subject of discussion across the country. Many are with the view that the GMC was purposely set up to promote the financial fortunes of few individuals and not the interest of the masses, as claimed by Fatty and his hiding group.
Both Fatty and Ceesay are currently attending a one week workshop organized by the IEC. Our reporter met Ceesay and Fatty this morning, who are apparently distancing themselves from Mai Fatty’s party.
Meanwhile, as the situation appears, none of the people contacted want to associate themselves with the GMC. The questions lingering in the minds of many here is: Is the GMC is another clandestine political party? It’s a question for Mai Fatty and his unknown group to answer. There is more questions than answers at this hour. The GMC leadership should be open enough to tell us who they are and not mere statements, without Executive composition. The party can only be taken seriously, if its leader is transparent and accountable to Gambians. Mai Fatty should clear the air.
