Following revelations made by the Freedom Newspaper regarding the President’s move to use Omar Ndow as his new economic pimp to dispose of GAMTEL, the nation’s main telecommunication giant, the Gambian leader has rescinded the appointment of Mr. Ndow as Information Minister with immediate effect. The ailing Gambian leading acting on powers conferred to him by the constitution, has terminated the appointment of Omar Ndow. Mr. Ndow who was recently jailed on economic crime charges has been redeployed to GAMTEL, according to a statement issued by the office of the President Wednesday.
Omar Ndow, Gambia’s most short-lived Information Minister is the new Executive Chairman of GAMTEL, a new portfolio created by the President. Among his task include: helping the President and his mafia group to dispose of GAMTEL. A Lebanese company recently bribed the President $10 Million dollars, in a bid to win the joint partnership contract.
According to the state house release, the President Yahya Jammeh invoked section 71 4(b) to remove Mr.Ndow and transferred the position of Communication Information and information Technology to the office of the president with from today February 11, 2009. No reason was advanced for the move. But state house sources said the President is apparently covering his economic crimes against the state by moving the Information Ministry at his office.
Besides the Information Ministry, Jammeh is also in charge of Agriculture, Defense and Higher Education. He is overseeing the said Departments of state.
