“Of Bafflegab and high-faluting terminology,” Declares Jainaba Njie

By Jainaba Njie, France

These past several days, we have witnessed a very disappointing show of the true nature of human intolerance and undemocratic principles from some of our Gambian folks upon whom the poor and the voiceless Gambians heavily depend.

The series of essays - permit me to call it that - that have been published both on the online newspapers and forums is unfortunately a manifest of our creed of Gambian folk set to save the Gambians from the 'democracy' we live under.

I only have the impression that each was unsing bafflegab and high-flouting terminologies to express a form of intelligence least expected from these Gambians tagged 'our saviors'. A closer study shows something like: disrespect, intolerance, pomposity, frivolity etc.I am tempted to ask the following questions:

Who cares if you are the best essay writer?

Who cares if you have a stack of certificates, diplomas or credentials?

Who cares if you are Shakespeare or Idi Amin?

Who cares if an Englishman can write good English or not?

Above all, what has anyone learnt from these 'excellent' essays?

These tirades have unfortunately shifted our attention from the real struggle we were expected to embark upon. At a time when a lot of serious and uncalled for incidents are raging back home, we content ourselves in indulging into infantile and calumnious name-calling, insults and unnecessary bragging.

I humbly call upon all our brothers (the sisters are quiet) to shed off their 'show of gooryaa' and return to the real problems. These tirades can go on unless someone shows maturity and keeps quiet and ignores the less intelligent. HUMILITY seems lacking and DIGNITY seems fading.

Please, unless a FULL STOP is laid at the end of the line, the unnecessary and useless exchange will continue.

From your sister Jay with love.

No reaction is expected from this but action is required.

Editors note: Thanks Jainaba for the sound observations. As far as the Freedom Newspaper is concerned, this is a closed chapter. We have spoken to both Mathew of The Gambia Echo, and Watchman. And  both parties have agreed to embark on a cease fire. This was done  in the spirit of brotherhood and national unity. We appreciate your intervention. Thanks for your attention.
