Jammeh Witch Hunting:
Death Toll Reaches 46
By Correspondent Modou Jammeh, Kanilai
The death toll has risen to 46, as more and more Gambians are dying as a result of concoctions given to them by Jammeh’s Guinean witch doctors, the Freedom Newspaper can reveal. A Sintet lady was the latest casualty, sources said. Dozens of local villagers are nursing various degrees of pain. Few patients can afford hospital admission fees- while the rest struggle for their lives. Their chances of making it is very slim, said a nurse assigned to the patients. Among those hospitalized include: Ali Nyapa Bah, a tailor from Sintet Fulla Kunda. Nyapa had a life threatening surgery, according to sources reaching this paper.
Meanwhile, two relatives of President Jammeh were among those abducted by the witch hunters: Kumba Appa Jammeh, and Nyamokono Tamba. Kumba Appa Jammeh is an auntie to the President. A raging Kumba Jammeh could be heard cursing the President. Our reporter said Kumba was shouting at the top of her voice calling names to the President in Jolla. She was heard crying aloud calling Yahya’s name in Jola, saying; yaya kat bukanaku, meaning Yahya leave the innocent people alone.
Jammeh who appeared scared has resorted to reducing price for a bag of rice to D650.00 in Kanil lai and other places. In Sintet, the search for Bulli Badjie, the village drummer and the widowed Mamanding Dampha known as Oumie Dampha continues.
Sources close to the Presidency say the President is increasingly worried by the rising death toll. “ Few days ago, he instructed his boys to secretly poison the leader of the witch hunters Sow Lamin. He is busy erasing potential evidence and leads that might link him to the mass killing of Gambians, in the name of witch hunting. Sow was very instrumental in the said exercise. He never lied to villagers. He tells them that the President sent them to carry out the task. I think this was one of the reasons why he decided to kill him,” said an aide to President Jammeh.
Sources said more people are likely to die in days to come. “ The death toll might jump to fifty by next week. There is no way that these people can survive,” said our source.
The Freedom Newspaper is compiling a list of Gambians who died as a result of Jammeh’s witch hunting exercise. We have detailed an undercover investigator to keep track of developments. Stay tuned.
