….As President Jammeh Grants Amnesty To Saine!!!!

By Staff Writer Ebrima  Sanyang,Banjul.

The embattled Point Newspaper Editor, cum Publisher Pap Saine will no longer have to worry about being deported or jailed for alleged false publication charges, as the police prosecutor Kebba Fadera, Tuesday announces the state’s intention to drop the false publication charges against Saine, the court heard. Fadera fails to advance any reason for the state’s move, but credible sources say the orders to drop Pap Saine’s case came from the President Yahya Jammeh.  Saine’s nationality case which, is scheduled for continuation today at the Banjul magistrates courts will be dropped, according to sources close to police prosecution division.

Appearing before magistrate Sainabou Wada of Kanifing, the Point boss who appeared calm, walked out of court as a happy man Tuesday.   Saine’s acquittal followed an order from the President to drop all charges against the embattled journalist. Pap Saine is the Dean of Reuters Correspondents in Africa. He has a wealth of journalistic experience.

His relationship with the Jammeh Government strained following the publication of news articles announcing the appointment of Neneh Macdowl Gaye’s as Gambia’s Ambassador to the US and the jailing of Diplomat Lamin Sanyang.

Mr.Saine who was raised in Senegal, but a Gambian citizen by birth,  has been in trouble with the Jammeh Government over his citizenship status. The Government on numerous occasions tried to revoke Saine’s citizenship on the grounds that he was not born in The Gambia. Pap Saine is now a freeman. Saine’s legal troubles with the state has been laid to rest for now.
