Banjul Resident Describes The Court Verdict As A Sham

By Jalang Bukary

Soccer pundits and Scorpions fans have reacted angrily following a Gambian high court order for the sale of former skipper’s property, located at Ker Serign, Western Region of the Gambia.

The prolific former skipper, Jatto Ceesay, who currently plies his trade with the Cypriot second division club, Digenis Morphou has been in a long-running legal battle with Arab Gambia Islamic Bank Ltd (AGIB) over a mortgaged house.

Many football fans across the country believe the former skipper has been let down by the nation, especially the FA despite all his contribution towards Gambian football.

One modou Camara, a resident of Banjul describe the high court’s order a sham nothing that the Gambia Football Association, GFA should be blame for what the player has gone through. He said the FA should have intervened to avert such drastic action taken against the striker by the high court.

‘’Jatto has done lots for The Gambia and deserve to be treated as a hero rather than sideline by the nation when he needed us most,’’ Camara told the Freedom Newspaper.

However, an insider at the Gambia Football Association,  who prefers to remain anonymous told this reporter that there are misunderstanding between Jatto and GFA that’s why the FA could not intervene to halt the court’s proceedings.  ‘’I am really disappointed about what Jatto has gone through, he has scarifies lots for the nation no matter what is going on between him and the FA we should have help him out,’’ he posited.

It could be recalled Arab Gambia Islamic Bank (AGIB) was seeking the recovery of the sum of D2,591,645.27 being monies due to the plaintiff and cost of D45,000.00 being legal expenses incurred by the plaintiff in the process of instituting the action.

The claim further stated that an order for the judicial sale of the property mortgaged to the plaintiff was contained in mortgage deed of serial registration no. 21/2005 vol. 22 pm, which also stated that the plaintiff be given conduct of the sale and such other orders as the court may deem fit to make.

According to the statement of the claim, the defendant had also applied for financing from the plaintiff amounting to D2,014,110 for the purchase of merchandise and it was to be paid under the terms of the agreement.

Meanwhile, all efforts to get GFA’s reactions on these allegations proved futile.  This reporter was told that the FA executive were busy preparing for the baby scorpions nationwide tour.
