GFA  LEAGUE!!!! Sea View climbed second

…..As Armed Forces title hunt halted

By Jalang Bukary

As the country’s football season gathered momentum, Sea View have moved to second on the Gambia Football Association First Division League table with 1-0 win over Gamtel courtesy of a Pa Modou Ngum 10th minute spot kick at the Brikama Box Bar Mini-Stadium as week thirteen ends on Thursday.

They have now narrowed the gap between themselves and league leaders Armed Forces to eight points. The khaki boy’s title chase was delayed again after they were held to a 1-1 draw by the Western Region giant Brikama United in a hard fought battle at the Brikama Mini Stadium last Saturday.

Earlier on Wednesday, champions Wallidan fought out a 1-1 draw with Brikama United at the Box Bar Mini-Stadium. Captain George Cole put his side in front but the hosts pulled level with only ten minutes remaining.

In the other fixtures on Thursday, Samger and struggling Hawks settled for a goalless draw at the Father Gough Sports Complex in Manjai Kunda. The draw saw Samger joint a group of teams tied on third with 18 points.

Real de Banjul and Steve Biko both bounced back from their weekend’s setbacks to collect the maximum three points.

Steve Biko beat Tallinding United 1-0 while Real de Banjul placed their title challenge back on track after a 1-0 win over Bakau United at the Independence Stadium courtesy of a Dabai Gaye goal. The defeat, which was Bakau United’s second successive, has relegated them to the mid-table.
