Jammeh Fires Governor Modou Soma

The Gambia's ailing president Yahya Jammeh has fired Governor Modou Soma Jobe, the Freedom Newspaper can reveal. Mr. Jobe, who is the brother of the jailed former majority leader Baba K Jobe, has been dismissed with immediate effect, sources said. The ailing Gambian leader has decided to part company with Lower River Region Governor. Jammeh is said to have snubbed a majority of Government officials. This is attributed to his ailing mental health problem.
Governor Jobe received his letter of dismissal Wednesday, according to dependable sources reaching this paper. There was no official reason advanced for his sacking, but it came at a time when The Gambian leader is on a nationwide dialogue with the people tour. During such tours, Jammeh is briefed about developments taking place in respective regions across the country. Some disgruntled party supporters used such gatherings to vent their anger against public officials not serving their interest.
Modou Soma Jobe is not stranger to hiring and firing. He was fired about two years ago on allegations of corruption. He was accused of selling rice and sugar meant for the community, which were donated to the people LRR by President Jammeh. He was briefly jailed and released.
Following numerous appeals by some concerned elders, President Jammeh granted him amnesty. Jobe was rehired, this time assigned to LRR. He used to be a strong supporter, and member of the July 22nd Movement.
