…Dr. Nyang, Dr. Saine, Dr. Wright, Mamburay, And Sallah To Grace Book launching Program!!!
By Pa Nderry M’bai, Raleigh, NC.
This year’s July 4 anniversary in Atlanta Georgia, would be characterized by an intellectual showdown. Top Gambian authors are expected to grace the historic occasion. Among the dignitaries to witness the occasion, is leading Gambian Professor Dr. Sulayman Nyang, Dr. Abdoulaye Saine, author of the bestselling book " THE PARADOX OF THIRD-WAVE DEMOCRATIZATION IN AFRICA, and Yankuba Mamburay, the author of the bestselling book titled OF " THE SEARCH FOR A LOST BROTHER." Dr. Donald R Wright, also a leading author is expected to grace the occasion. The book review program, has been organized by the Atlanta based AGERA organization.
The invited authors are expected to present papers during the much awaited forum, which would attract people from various walks of life. Dr. Nyang is an outspoken Gambian scholar. He has appeared on major radio and TV talk shows here in the United States-most importantly the Voice of America Radio Africa Service Program ( VOA). Professor Nyang is also an expert in his own right on issues relating to Islam, and religion.
Like, Dr. Nyang, Professor Saine, too is a charismatic commentator. He has authored numerous publications on Gambian local politics, foreign policy, and democratization on the African continent. His critical stance against the Jammeh dictatorship, is a clear testimony of Saine’s commitment to help restore democracy in The Gambia, through the might of the pen.
Professor Saine’s academic work has been widely featured on US home based military journals, local and international media houses. He recently presented a masterpiece write up to the BBC magazine, which was a cover page story. Saine exposes the institutionalized corruption in The Gambia, characterized by gross rights abuses, under President Yahya Jammeh’s watch.
The third emerging young author Yankuba Mamburay, is no stranger to the Freedom Newspaper’s audience. Mr. Mamburay is a seasoned writer, whose academic work had appeared on major publications. A Malaysian graduate, Mr. Mamburay is also the publisher of the Gambian banker website. He is running the site together with Banka Manneh. Mamburay has a strong background on economics, and Islamic related issues.
As we go to press, news just came in that Halifa Sallah, the reknowned Gambian sociologist, and politician was expected to arrive in the US on July 3rd. He has been billed to witness the book launching program. Sallah himself recently authored a bestselling book.
Mr. Sallah spent all his life fighting for humanity. He openly confronted the Jammeh Government, when the regime embarked on a so called witch hunting exercise. Sallah has been walking in and out of prison for his stance against rights abuses, and dictatorship. He is currently placed on bail, while investigations into his case are pending. He was arrested in the wake of the mass detention of Gambian journalists by the NIA.
The Atlanta book review forum, would also feature the issue of Immigration. Experts would be delivering papers on Immigration, and other topics of public interest.
