Nigerian Princess Condemns The
Jailing Of Gambian Journalists
Says “I cannot believe that a Nigerian Judge would take African Justice back to the Dark days of apartheid and discrimination.”
By H.R.H. Princess Uloma M. Scales (A true Nigerian)
Mr. Pa Nderry Mbai,
Please afford me space to record my despair and dismay, over the conviction of so many Journalists in The Gambia. I cannot believe that a Nigerian Judge would take African Justice back to the Dark days of apartheid and discrimination. African people spent Two hundred years living by the leave of our colonial fathers, from which we The African race struggled and died in our millions. Are we only to surface from oppression and tyranny to bow to tyranny of our own making. Have we learned nothing?
The Rule of Law has been the guiding force for African's to emerge as a free and democratic people, still struggling to overcome so many obstacles to find food and education and dignity. The right for African's to stand tall and to speak freely, has cost our beloved continent too many lives and untold tragedies, yet we remain a resilient and just people, prepared to extend our hand in friendship to our former adversaries.
Today, we see that one master has been replaced by other masters of our own skin and likeness. We continue to cry freedom every day. We look to our leaders for guidance and brotherhood to endure the challenges that are set before us. Yet we are betrayed constantly through their selfish interest, greed and unquenchable thirst for power.
As a Nigerian who has felt the tyranny of Abacha and his kind. I would be humbled if you could record that I as a Nigerian speak for we the majority, as One people and One great Nation..my homeland..Nigeria. We disown this weak and feeble Nigerian Judge and strongly condemn the judgment recorded against:
Ms Sarata Jatta Dibba
Mr.Sam Sarr
Mr.Pap Saine
Mr.Pa Modou Faal
Mr. Ebrima Sawaneh
Mr.Emil Touray
To Two years Imprisonment and heavy fine....Without reservation or prejudice my heart goes out to Gambian's and to the family and colleagues of the wrongly convicted.
Please be assured of my shame and my grief and that I will do all in my power to highlight this travesty, to my people. We shall not forget your suffering or your struggle.
My heart bleeds for you and with you.
