Gambian Ambassador To The
US Fired!!!
The Gambia Ambassador to the United States Neneh Macdowl Gaye has been dismissed with immediate effect, the Freedom Newspaper can reveal. Her dismissal might have to do with an invitation extended to her by the Amnesty International Washington DC office, for a meeting over Gambia’s ailing rights record, which the sacked diplomat was said have honored. Neneh was supposed to meet with the Amnesty officials this coming Monday in DC, but in view of her sacking she would be unable to represent The Gambia, sources here said.
According to informed sources, Neneh’s sacking was also announced on state TV, and radio. She was dismissed with immediate effect. No reason was advanced for her removal.
Meanwhile, Deputy Ambassador Ebrima JT Kujabi is acting as the interim Ambassador pending Neneh’s replacement. Musa Mboob, an official of the Embassy was also fired.
President Jammeh was said to have been outraged by Neneh's move to honour Amnesty's invitation. He was heard shouting saying that "she would be arrested, and charged with treason upon her arrival in The Gambia."
Many here hailed Neneh's move to open her doors to Amnesty.Sources say the former diplomat has not pocketed any government coffers.
"Her removal has nothing do with that. She had fallen out with the President because of her independence, and bravery as a diplomat. As a journalist, Neneh decided to take up the challenge to meet with Amnesty to clear the air since she is our representative here,"said our source.
