“JANKADING” Is Unacceptable!!!
Please Treat The President With Respect-Says Lamin Njie
By Lamin Njie
Dear Mr. Mbai,
Please allow me to give you a little piece of advice, as a Gambian brother. I understand that you are among the Gambian prolific writers today, and as "credible journalist", some of the headlines on Freedom newspaper are way too much to publish on a newspaper; like insulting a head of state with such profanity.
I think as Chief Editor, such vulgar - in reference to "Jankading", should never come to discussion as to whether it should be published. Thus, whether you agree with your head of state's policies, governance, his personal styles or not; he surely deserves respect from anybody who may agree or disagree with him; That disagreements are human and are acceptable; but uttering insults to this magnitude to anybody who is a public figure to our nation is tantamount to belittling the entire nation and should be discouraged. The Gambian society or its culture will never be reached at any point of its civilization or modernization to accept or condone insult as freedom of speech.
Journalism is an honorable profession or career you name it; and it is vital to your readers to read your paper with some seriousness and hoping to get reliable, unbiased and objective pieces of information for their enlightenment. Your job which I assume you know best among other things: is to enlighten, advise, transform, inform and to educate people from all walks of life about burning issues of national and global relevance.
Mr. Mbai, you are a very smart and knowledgeable person, please use this newspaper to give accurate, unbiased, authentic information to your readers and refrain from using vulgar insults; so that the world can rely on Freedom newspaper as a source of credible news.
Thanks Mr. Mbai
Lamin.
