Gambia’s iron hand dictator President Yahya Jammeh,should repent and seek God’s forgiveness before his inevitable fall. Jammeh is not a Muslim as he portrayed himself day in day out. With all these killings, disappearances, tortures and persecution of innocent Gambians, yet he and his supporters want to tell us that Jammeh is a Muslim. Jammeh is far from being a Muslim. A good Muslim do not kill, terrorize or oppresses his people. It is time for our religious leaders to tell Jammeh the unpleasant truth. The man can either be a devoted Muslim or a non-believer. His actions and personal comportment are far from being a Muslim.

A local Imam in The Gambia said Jammeh is a big time maroon when it comes to Islam. That it was wrong for Jammeh to be holding praying beads with his left hand. We entirely agree with the Imam. Little did Jammeh knows that his left hand takes care of dirt and other unclean stuff. Praying beads are meant to be kept clean and should be protected from dirt. Jammeh needs more Islamic tutoring as he is a novice so to speak. Perhaps, he do not know the dangers posed by his actions.

A good Muslim do not swear “belai walahitalai” and continues to commit sins. Jammeh is a deceiver and should be counted under non believers. Unless he changes his way of life, people will continue to doubt his faith. A good Muslim should be magnanimous and down to earth. Jammeh lacks such qualities. He is pompous and lacks common sense. A good Muslim do not lie or steal, but Jammeh is guilty of the two.

From July of 1994, to date, how many Gambians died under Jammeh’s repressive rule? The same Yahya Jammeh is carrying dozens of praying beads just to fool his countrymen and women. Jammeh do not have sympathy for Gambians. He enjoys this culture of killing, betrayal and back stabbing. If Daba Marena of all Daba Marena can be murdered by this government who is safe under Yahya’s watch? Daba, was one of those Jammeh errand boys who operated his torture chambers at the NIA. Daba did a lot of nasty jobs for Yahya and it was rather unfortunate that things back fired on him.

The late Marena was at the NIA when the UDP supporters were tortured by state agents at the NIA some years ago. Wassa Janneh, Syngle Nyassi and others suffered from the hands of SGT. Bombardeh alias Kawsu Camara. Rightly or wrongly, Marena was acting under Yahya’s command to have those innocent political activists tortured and possibly killed. The likes of Wassa suffered brutally from the hands of these anti freedom gun totting Jammeh killers. How can we call Jammeh a Muslim when he is engaged in domestic terrorism. Jammeh can be best compared with terrorists in Iraq brutalizing there fellow citizens in the name of Islam. The likes of Jammeh are giving bad report card to Muslims.

It beats people’s imagination that Daba Marena conspired with others to overthrow Jammeh’s government. Daba was with Jammeh in Mauritania when the so called coup happened. If Daba can be classified as accomplice then where does Jammeh stand? This government want to lie and yet do not take its time to prepare  good lies. What stopped them from saying that Daba never did his job as expected as an intelligence chief ? But to say that he was part of the coup without facts to support their claims rendered their story doubtable. We need facts at this hour and not mere empty and politically motivated statements.

Our religious leaders should preach to Jammeh to exercise restrain and bear in mind that one day he will be held accountable for his deeds. Our Imams and church leaders should speak out in the interest of national unity. The Gambia, has reached a level where killing, arrest, torture, and disappearances are no longer taken as a story. Citizens are now accustomed to such Jammeh heavy handedness. If this undesirable situation continues, our country risked being plunged into crisis. When there is crisis everybody is bound to suffer. It is better to start conflict resolution than to wait until the last minute, when the country is thrown into total turmoil. It is time to act now to save our country from future crisis. We rest our case.
