Poor women who earned their living by selling basic goods at the serekunda Central market have manifested their joy, and happiness for the sacking of notorious Police commission Samba Kebbeh, who was the police commissioner of the Kanifing division.
Commissioner Kebbeh, who used to be very arrogant with street vendors, mostly women was given his marching orders alongside his Boss Famara Jallow, who headed the orientation unit of the Gambia Police. Both Kebbeh and Jallow were among the most feared officers in the ranks of the Police force. Famara Jallow infact is believed to be spiritually armed with jujus was seen taking a taxi town trip to return to his home in Banjullinding on the day of his sacking.
Women vendors alleged that Kebbeh who visits the Market every morning with his men, used to kick their goods and scarter them on the ground, he also once ordered that no person is was allowed to sell outside the allocated canteens, an order that was defied by all vendors and the following morning up to 200 vendors were arrested and their goods sized for days. One woman vendor who wants to be called Mba told our reporter that she was a victim of Kebbeh, but knew that Kebbeh would not last long in his position.
