Gambians In Sweden Formed A New Human Rights Organization!!
PRESS RELEASE FROM ( HUMRA) HUMAN RIGHTS FOR ALL.
Today, the eleventh day of November 2009, a new human rights group is born in Sweden. The name of our group is Human Rights for All (HUMRA). The group is formed by Gambian residents in Sweden, with the aim of campaigning, reporting and documenting human rights abuses, violations in the Gambia, and Africa as a whole.
Our group members have for past 15 years of misrule in country been campaigning with other rights groups around the world. However, we saw it important to come together as group and add our voice and efforts to the magnificent works that the Amnesty International, the Gambian US and UK branches are doing.
We therefore take this opportunity to inform our communities in the Diaspora, home, the African human rights defenders and the Amnesty International Secretariat about the launching of a Gambia human rights association in Sweden. The abuse of human rights in The Gambia has reached a point that demands our national responsibility. Our national duty is first to inform, link up and mobilize the Gambian community in Sweden to join our countrywomen and men to campaign for an end to the day to day abuses of human rights in The Gambia.
Our aims are the following:
1. TO MONITOR, RESEARCH AND INVESTIGATE HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES IN THE GAMBIA
2. DOCUMENT AND PUBLISH INFORMAION ON HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES
3. TO DOCUMENTED AND REPORT ATTACKS ON ALL HUMAN RIGHTS DEFENDERS.
4. TO INFORM OUR COMMUNITIES AND MEDIA ABOUT HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES.
5. TO COLLABORATE WITH OTHER INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS DEFENDERS.
We will greatly appreciate developing cooperation base on supporting the human rights of the Gambian people.
1. To consider setting up of Diaspora human rights coordinating committee
2. To consider for the setting up of a committee to study and recommend a human rights information system
IN the services of the Nation
