New York Based Organization Awards Senegalese Musical Star With Life Time Achievement Award!!!

Senegalese musical star Fatou Laobe,  would be conferred with the “ LIFE TIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD” by the New York based Pularr Speaking Association this coming Sunday, the Freedom Newspaper can reveal. Fatou Laobe is the first African musician to be awarded with such a  prestigious award. The organizers of the award commended Madam Laobe for her leading role in the promotion of  arts, and entertainment on the African continent. 

The Pularr Speaking Association, has a membership of over 30, 000 people.  Its membership,  are mainly from Mauritania, Senegal, Gambia, Mali, Guinea Bissau, Guinea Conakry, Nigeria,  Sierra Leone, and elsewhere across the continent. Among the organization’s goals: include the promotion of African culture, brotherhood, unity, and peaceful coexistence. 

The organization was formed in 1988. Since its formation, the organization has witnessed a dramatic increase on its membership base. More and more people are joining the organization.

Fatou Laobe is among the top ten artists in Senegal. She has released over nine albums,  since  her emergence into the artistic field. Her tenth album is expected to be released before the New Year. All her previous releases sold well, as she continues to top the musical chart.

Kaaw Sow is the Communication officer of the New York based Pulaar Speaking Association. Mr. Sow told the Freedom Newspaper in an interview that Fatou Laobe was chosen for the prestigious award by his organization for the following reasons.

“ She has met all the requirements for such an important award. Fatou has demonstrated a sound track record,  since her emergence into the musical field. This is evident on her multicultural  lyrics. Her music transcends the African continent. She is indeed a superstar. We deem it crucially imperative to award her for the valuable services,  she has rendered to the continent, and beyond. She deserved this award,”said Sow, who resides in New York.

According to Mr. Sow, Fatou Laobe embraces all cultures in her music. He adds that Laobe promotes African unity as well in her music.

“She is a role model in the arts field. I think the time has come for us Africans to appreciate our own artists. Fatou’s  success story cannot go unnoticed. We want to thank her for the efforts in promoting African culture, and music,” he said.

Contacted for her side of the story, Fatou Laobe remarked “ I am exceedingly happy to be conferred with such an important award. This goes to show that my African brothers, and sisters appreciate my artistic work. I felt highly encouraged.”

While thanking God for availing her the opportunity to be conferred with the Life Time Achievement Award, Madam Laobe said she is very grateful to the New York based organization. She reaffirms her commitment to further excel in the artistic field.

Fatou Laobe, like many other musicians, started to develop the passion for music during her tender age. Despite her Dad’s opposition to such a career, she managed to find her way into the musical scene.

“ My Dad was not happy in the beginning when I ventured into music, but music is my calling. I decided to pursue it. I am glad that I have contributed my quota into the field of arts in Africa. My Dad used to be in the military. He is from Ballangarr (Gambia).  My Mum is from Senegal. You can see my Gambian connections,” she said

According to Fatou Laobe, her music is divided into three different domains: Pulaar, Wollof, and Mandingka. She said she sometimes include Aku into her lyrics. She thanked her SeneGambian fans for the support extended to her over the years.

For her, African culture should be nurtured, and marital values be upheld. She thanked the Freedom Newspaper for the leading role it is playing in empowering the voiceless.
