Army chief of staff General Yankuba Drammeh has been demoted to the rank of private before he was finally fired from the force, the Freedom Newspaper can reveal. General Drammeh, who was arrested shortly after his sacking from the army is currently being investigated by the state on allegations of coup plot. The president ordered for his immediate arrest, and sacking from the army. There is confusion in the military, as no one here is assured of job security, or their personal safety. One is lucky if he or she returns home after work.
Mr. Drammeh, has been replaced by General Badjie, who is currently overseeing the affairs of the armed forces. General Badjie is the half brother of the Inspector General of police Esssa Badjie.
In another development, this paper has also learnt about the arrest of the Inspector General of police Essa Badjie. Mr. Badjie was spotted at the NIA head quarters yesterday amidst reports that he was detained over coup related allegations. He was missing from work Monday morning, sources said.
Deputy Chief of Staff General Massaneh Kinteh, who was forced to go on leave was supposed to resume work Monday. Mr. Kinteh has been out of work for about a month since his return from his UK studies.
General Tamba, according to sources, has been absolved of the coup allegations against him. Sources said no evidence was found that link Tamba to any subversive activities against the state.
The state is now investigating him on an alleged financial impropriety charges. So far no charges have been filed against the detainees, including General Tamba.
