Former Information Minster Neneh Macdowl Gaye Secretly Migrates To The United States

….Amidst Political Uncertainty In The Gambia

Former Gambian Ambassador to the United States Neneh Mawdowl Gaye, is reported to have secretly migrated into this country amidst reports that she is fleeing from possible persecution from the administration of President Yahya Jammeh, sources said. Ambassador Gaye is currently being hosted by her daughter in Atlanta Georgia, our sources added. She left The Gambia shortly before the mass arrest of civilians, and military officers, who are implicated in what the Government claimed a coup plot against the administration of President Jammeh.

Madam Gaye, who used to be the Director General of Gambia Radio, and Television Services (GRTS), as well as the Daily Observer Managing Director, was spotted in Atlanta recently, said sources reaching this paper. The Freedom Newspaper tried to obtain Madam Gaye’s host phone number, but was unsuccessful despite numerous searches.

A source who spoke to us said he was going to contact some folks in Atlanta, with the view of connecting us with the former Minister. The source said the erstwhile Information Minister is playing low profile during her stay in Georgia. It is not clear if she would return home in the short term, sources here said.

It would be recalled that Ambassador Gaye was recalled, following her acceptance to meet with Amnesty International officials to discuss the case of missing Gambian journalist Chief Ebrima Chief Manneh. She was dismissed with immediate effect. The President was said to have been outraged by  Neneh’s move to grant audience to the Amnesty DC officials.
