Gambia:Dida Halake To Buy The Daily Observer???
Dida Halake To Buy The Daily Observer???

London Letter: Dear Hon. Dr. Amadou Samba …Can I buy the Daily Observer?

 Sir (and good friend!),

I was rather taken aback the other day to hear that for a few days the good citizens of the Kombos could not get hold of my beloved Daily Observer. I know Pa Malick Faye is a hard worker and he would not allow such a situation to develop – as my Production Manager he would drive all the way from Lamin to make sure all is OK with the printing of the next day’s edition if problems arose. I do very much hope that the problem is not the one thing you and I fought over so much: the lack of a proper printer.

But I am not writing to talk about past problems. That is all forgiven and forgotten. I write because I want to buy the Daily Observer if it is at all for sale. If indeed the Daily Observer is for sale, and you would consider my offer to purchase, I would like to state the following for the purposes of transparency:-

I would invite the following onto the Board:

Hon. Madam Neneh MacDouall-Gaye – President.

Hon Madam Fatim Badgie – Vice-President.

Dida Halake – Executive Chairman (51% share-holder).

Andrew DaCosta – Deputy Chairman/Finance Director

Pa Malick Faye – Managing Director,

Kemo Cham – Editor-in-Chief.

Assan Sallah – Chief Investigative Reporter “Licensed to Spill”!

The editorial line will of course remain pro-APRC but we will keep editorial independence. Of course, as self-respecting newspaper, we will highlight maladministration and injustices and the KMC can expect screaming “RUBBISH KMC” headlines if citizens complain.

In case you are wondering why I want to buy the Daily Observer, it is because the winter is very cold here in England! Seasons greetings and a very happy 2010 to all.

 Yours truly,

 D. A. Jallow-Halake.

PS: I hear through the grape-vine that Pa Mbai is a fearless man, but the same person told me that the one thing that used to petrify him were my editorials at the Daily Observer. I am told he couldn’t eat or sleep for days whenever he read my editorials, and that his marriage suffered greatly because he spent nights away from the marital bed – composing his Knock-Out editorials to counter me. So as APRC supporters you win there too. Let’s do business!

Yours sincerely,

Dida Halake.

Editors note: Halake you damn right about that. I am a computer wizard. The newsroom is my bedroom. I read all papers,  including your anti Western editorials while at the Observer. Jammeh has lost a great mind for that matter.  I am sure he missed your presence at the Observer.

That said, I am equally interested in buying the Daily Observer if given the opportunity. My credit history is intact, and have the funds to buy the Observer. I look forward to seeing an ad sale for the Observer.

Once I have full control of the Observer, I will fire the entire staff, and replace them with independent minded journalists. The paper would enjoy full editorial independence. I am very serious about this. I mean business!

We wouldn't mind to hire Fatou Jahumpa Ceesay as a cleaner. She can also double as a vendor since she has no job at this hour. She is suffering for real.

Halake, you need to get in touch with your friend Michael Scales so that he can talk to Amadou Samba on this. Scales and Samba are good friends. Have a great day Mr. Halake.  Our regards to the family.
