A Nigerian national has been arrested by Gambia’s anti narcotic unit on drug trafficking, the Freedom Newspaper can reveal. A large quantity of cocaine was seized from the Nigerian national, whose name has not been released by police yet. The incident happened this past Monday in Serre Kunda, where drug squad agents searched the Nigerian man’s car, and found the concealed drugs.

According to sources reaching this paper, Seedy Bayo, a drug squad agent and driver suspected the accused of trafficking drugs. When approached by officer Bayo, the accused agreed to be escorted to the Serre Kunda police station, where he was searched by police. No drugs were found in his possession at this time.

Police then proceeded to the Nigerian national’s shop in Serre Kunda, where they found #65,400 pounds. Again, there was no evidence of drug presence in the shop.

Following intensive investigations, sources went on, one of the officers found cocaine underneath the accused car driver seat.  The cocaine was concealed in a black plastic bag, sources said.

Police say they received a tip off that the accused was on his way to deliver the cocaine consignment to one notorious drug dealer in the person of one Boy Bansang. He ran out of luck when police finally nabbed him. He was granted police bail pending his court appearance.

The Director of National Drug Enforcement Agency Bun Sanneh has commended officer Bayo and his team for a job well done, sources here said. The drug squad agents were hailed for their dedication to duty.
