Michael Scale Pays Tribute To Deyda Hydara
Dear Mr. Editor,
As the minutes tick away to the end of this sad day....the 16th December 2009, I am privileged to share with you the mark of respect given to Mr. Deyda Hydara by all the online newspapers. It is a day of infamy to match many others that are recorded by the honourable company of journalists around the world. I am certain Mr. Hydara would be touched by such a good show of solidarity. For death is never final when such good men and women stand to mark this day with silence and fond remembrance of an outstanding friend and college to so many. May his memory inspire more young people to join this noble club and follow in his fearless footsteps?
It is again most noted that The Daily Observer does not mention this outrageous act of cowardice against one of their own. Instead they feature the latest Donkey and Horse show. Perhaps this is fitting enough for such a worthless and meaningless piece of toilet paper. For it serves little other purpose than to ease the greatest backside in The Gambia.
It is noted that this year there are many calls to the International community to take action, over so many unchallenged deaths and disappearances in The Gambia. None more than to The Commonwealth of nations. I fear that these pleas would be better put as 'messages in a bottle" and tossed into the sea...for the chance of an International phalanx of concerted pressure, as there was in the case of the GPU 6, is about as likely as someone finding that message on a lonely beach somewhere in the world.
I would suspect if I took a 3 year degree course on the Commonwealth....and came back to advise you of its worth, I would be in no better position to engage you on how to approach this obscure and well meaning organization for support. For it is as worthless an organ of action as is The United Nations. The world moves in layers of red tape and bureaucracy......along a chain of reasoning that filters down any ability to move anywhere with any end result..except perhaps a one line statement of intent that has never any motivation. Bit like a bullet without gunpowder.....the bullet drops out of the end of the barrel with minus velocity into the waste paper bin. Sorry for that. Provided the Jammeh's of this world don't upset the apple cart too much and wage war on Senegal or Nigeria..then he can do whatever he likes and get away with it. Look no further than Rwanda to see the measure of these words......lots of regrets when it was all over. A million dead and still counting.
God helps those who help themselves.....is the wisest saying on earth.
I remain inspired by our online action group for all our failures and expletives. Sure my friend PK Jarjue can pick at Pa Nderry over FJC.....Wouldn't it be Posh to speak like The Queen all the time. If ever The Freedom Newspaper wants to speak to her Majesty...I am educated in the diplomatic verbiage to get a message through her outer cordon.
In fact Her Majesty The Queen, remains the one consistent common sense and power in all this. Even Robert Mugabe stripped of his honorary Knighthood ... did not dare go against The Queen. His aim was at "Those Devils at No 10" Bob knows the ropes.....and lives to tell the tale.
I was interested in Mai Fatty's latest offering to PK Jarjue.....as was My sister in pen Fatou Jaw Manneh. We will meet fire with fire was the message. David versus Goliath..was a very good use of vernacular. But this sounds more like a second world war underground resistance group in France or Norway or The Netherlands, than a tenable political opposition. Mai Fatty can certainly string it together when it comes to words. But the fact remains.....that unless the people will support an opposition based manifesto..resistance is futile.
Lets face it....just what is Halifa Sallah going to do to Jammeh. Wave a book under his chin.?
Mr.Darboe..is so isolated and without any ammunition that he remains harmless to Jammeh. He can't even organize a license..at the local post office. Meanwhile Jammeh laughs all the way to the bank.
Of course My friend Essa..was quick to reassure me that they could fill the State House within 5 minutes of Jammeh's departure. But with what may I hesitate to ask? Organised chaos perhaps.?
Jammeh is going nowhere is any hurry....my friends. He is well ahead of the game. To remove Jammeh would require a long term ambition of political will and consensus by an organization prepared to take casualties during the process.
You see Gambian's want it all laid out on a plate for them..but don't want to do the cooking.
I wish I was a Gambian.?
Michael ..U.K.
