May Hydara’s Kids Live To Witness
Jammeh’s Demise-Writes Boy Pulo
…As He calls On Jammeh To Step Down Before It Is Too Late
By Boy Pulo
Dear Mr. President,
It is 15 years since you took our freedom away from us and turned our dear Gambia into a terror state. Gambians are like prisoners in their own homes with no hope for freedom. Families are left with no bread winners; children left as orphans with no father figures, all because of your brutality. You have turned families and friends against each other to the extent that Gambians are living in constant fear. You have turned one of Africa’s best democratic state to a totalitarian/terror state governed by decrees from you instead of the constitution you swore to uphold. You are nothing but a dictator. When is this going to end Mr. President? We cannot wait to gain our freedom from a brutal murderer like you. Think about the people you murdered and maimed for the past 15 horrible years. Do you have any remorse Mr. President? How many more are you going to murder? Gambia has become a lawless society at your mercy and with the help of some of your ignorant soldiers with no education driving in town like bunch of drunkards. Our dear country is in misery.
Mr. President you always talking about the developments you achieved during these 15 years: My question is, are the Gambians benefiting from this so-called development? Obviously not. Building a TV station with no programs to benefit the masses is not development but waste of tax payers money. Building hospitals and schools with no resources to help the poor is another waste. Development centered on only one area (Senegambia) is not development for the masses.
As a matter of fact, the structural development in The Gambia is mainly financed by the Gambians in the Diaspora and the tourists from Western Europe, so you didn’t have anything to brag about other than looting our coffers for your own selfish gains. You have grabbed all the fertile agricultural land for your own selfish use and forcing civil servants to cultivate the land for you. What are you going to leave for our kids?
Mr. President I left The Gambia about 11 years ago to pursue higher education, financed not by your government, but from my own pocket with the intention of returning to my beloved country and serve the people. Right after graduating from College, I decided to go back home and work for my country.
Unfortunately, I could not stay more than 2 months because of the way you run the country. Corruption is now accepted by society as normal way of life-starting from you to every single office in the country. The Police and Army acting like they are above the law, thereby creating fear in people, worst of all the President throwing biscuit to people as if they are your servants. Do you think a President in his right mind will act like this? I hope not. Our school Children spend endless hours standing under the hot burning sun to see you off to your so-called second capital, rural Kanilai. What kind of education do you expect these kids to have Mr. President?
Every other month there is some kind of public holiday for the civil servants. For example, your Son’s naming ceremony. How much do you think is the government losing with all these stupid Pubic holidays? You are involved in all kinds of businesses namely sand mining, public transportation, real estate, construction, and even owning a bakery. When are you going to have enough or give chance to the ordinary people to grow Mr. President? There are a lot of Gambians with education and experience who will love to go back home and contribute to the development of our nation, but because of your ignorance and lack of respect for those more educated than you, they will stay in the Diaspora as long as you are in power. Who do you think is losing? Obviously not you but the Gambian people.
This Month Marks the 5th anniversary of the death of Dayda Hydara, one of the great icons of our country, murdered by your thugs to suppress freedom of the press. The death of Dayda did not only ignite the fight for press freedom in the Gambia, but also revealed your brutality to the entire world. I was reading a tribute by his Son and I could not help but cry. This is another family left without a father because of your brutality. I hope one day this kid will grow to see your demise.
Mr. President 15 years of destruction is enough; please peacefully give up that office for the sake of development. The Gambia cannot handle the destruction any longer. Every genuine Gambian is worried about the future of our country and with you being in power our future is bleak. The level of fear in Gambians is unbearable to the extent that people are scared to death to talk about politics. Mr. President, you saw what happened in Guinea, Liberia, Bissau, Mauritanian and the list goes on… We do not want that to happen in our loved country. Please leave for the sake of the oppress people and let the Gambian start breathing the air of freedom you have taken from them.
