Editorial: Success VS Hate?

While we are preoccupied with covering pressing political matters at home, some idle folks are stirring a beef with the Freedom Newspaper. One of them is Mathew Jallow, the flip-flopping crybaby, who thinks that he can remote control us from his candor apartment room in Wisconsin. He wants to determine what we should publish and what not. He also wants to measure our  journalistic qualifications. Fine, we have no problem with Mathew offering an advice to the Freedom Newspaper, but his actions should be  guided by honesty and goodwill.  His “hateful and misguided” piece clearly exposes his vengeance against this paper.

Mathew Jallow is a plagiarizer, who uses Freedom Newspaper articles without giving credit to his source of information. This is the highest form of journalistic dishonesty.  He copied our OJ Jallow story without having the courtesy to credit his source. We sometimes wonder if this crybaby Jallow has ever been tutored about journalistic and academic honesty.  Or is he playing “ I don’t care” attitude. Well, we cared about journalistic ethics crybaby Jallow.  (Read The Gambia Echo of December 19^th 2009 publication) and see Mathew’s plagiarism scandal.

Plagiarism is a no, no in the field of journalism. If Mathew is claiming to be ethical,  why is he not respecting such a cardinal rule of journalism? Why posing as the originator of the story when you lifted it from our paper? You are not only undermining your own reputation, but the paper you writing for. Quit being lazy and fish out your own stories. Remember that all stories published in the Freedom Newspaper are commissioned. In other words, we pay our Freelance and stringer contributors.

At some point, we thought of writing to The Gambia Echo Editor to draw his attention to Mathew’s  dishonest journalistic practices, but after a second thought, we decided to let it go.  You need to play by the rule if you want to command the respect of your readers. Always give credit to your source(s) of information. If you feel that the Freedom Newspaper does not deserved to be credited, please do not use its materials. It is simple as ABC. You also reserve the right not to read us.

In the field of academia, plagiarizers are often expelled. It is dishonest to steal or lift people’s hard earned work without giving credit to them. We expect self proclaimed journalists like Mathew to respect the rule. Your actions tantamount to stealing.

Mathew is a confused fellow who wants attention. We are not going to be lured into any beef. Go ahead on your smear campaign. We do not need your positive report card to excel as a newspaper. 

As an elder, we expect Jallow to grow up, but it appears that Mathew is still acting like a baby. He is not only petty, but hateful. My own eight year daughter is smarter than crybaby Jallow.

You need to address the issues and refrain from personal attacks. Education without manners is counterproductive. The biggest fool is the one who thinks that he is infallible. Humility is important in whatever one does in life.

Freedom Newspaper’s success story is here to stay. You can say whatever you want, but the reality is that this paper is a force to reckon with it. We are pleased with the success we registered over the years. Gambians appreciate the services we are delivering here at Freedom. We are still alive hater. We are dictating the pace. This is the paper you cannot afford to miss for a day.

The same Mathew Jallow predicted two years ago that the Freedom Newspaper is doomed to fail if it does not change its reporting style. He issued a terse letter disassociating himself from the paper. 

A year down the road, he started contributing on the paper.  He even praised us for our quality of journalism. Now he is resorting to smear campaign. He is not only questioning our competence as journalists, but he went as far as calling us agents of terror.

Mathew also refused to admit that Pa Nderry has a degree in journalism. We wonder what kind of world Jallow is living. Are you with your senses? Don't tell me that you have gone insane. Never allow personal grudges to overcome your emotions. Give credit where it is due and stop the hate Mathew. Pa Nderry is an honor student with a GPA of 3:55. 

If Mathew Jallow is aggrieved with our reportage, he is free to sue us to court. The Freedom Newspaper is a legally registered company. It can sue and can also be sued. We look forward to seeing you in court. Success versus hate.
