EDITORIAL: Nigerian Named In A Detroit  Terror Attack

… Why The US Should Watch Palestine Investors In Gambia

Africa is vulnerable to terrorist groups largely due to its increasing poverty and official corruption. The continent is also struggling with instability-giving free pass to terrorist groups to pursue their hate agenda against the West. The terrorists posed as investors-but in reality they are not.

We sometime wonder why Islamic extremists  are hateful against  freedom loving nations like the United States. America is one of the most peaceful loving nations that one can find on the face of the earth. Enemies of freedom are hell bent on undermining United States’ much “cherished peace and values” in the name of terrorism. Terrorism in all its form is illegal and unislamic. Those perpetrating terror in the name of Islam are criminals and should be punished accordingly. Islam does not promote, or propagate violence.

The recent terror attack on the Northwest airlines by a Nigerian National should be condemned by all freedom loving nations. Imagine the type of destruction to life and property that were posed to be caused by the senseless attack , if  it were not the timely intervention of the passengers.

By all indications, the Nigerian terrorist was out for no good, as his actions suggest that he is anti America and freedom. Preliminary investigations so far indicate that he has ties with Al-Qaida terrorist group in Yemen.

It is a known fact that Detroit has a sizeable Muslim population-mainly Nigerians. It was commendable on the side of the Muslim Community in that part of the country to unanimously condemn and disassociate themselves from the hateful actions of the terrorist. The Nigerian Muslim Community according to the Detroit Free Press, have vehemently denied having ties with the captured terrorist.

“It was shocking to us,” Imam Kazeem Agboola, head of the Muslim Community Center-Detroit, told the Free Press today. The mosque, whose congregation is predominantly Nigerian, opened last year and is part of the growing community of Muslims from west Africa moving to Michigan.( The Detroit Free Press reported on its December 26th 2009 Edition).  Link: http://www.freep.com/article/20091226/NEWS05/91226035/1318/Attempted-attack-raises-airport-security-concerns

The United States has been playing a  leading role in promoting freedom and liberty across the globe. This is evident on the Iraqi invasion, which led to the toppling of Saddam’s despotic regime,  and the ongoing efforts to tackle the Taliban in Afghanistan.

The arrest of the Nigerian terrorist, should serve as an eye opener to the US Intelligence Community- that Al-Qaida is at work and therefore there is absolute need to intensify the United State’s  efforts in tracking down such enemies of freedom. In other words, the US should closely monitor the African region, where of late some Arab investors are targeting for clandestine business practices.  A case in point is The Gambia, where some Palestine so called investors believed to have links with terror groups are operating.  We reported this story in the past, which warranted a swift reaction from Muhammed Bazzi and his group, who threatened us with legal action. We merely reported charges filed against Bazzi’s by one his former business associates, who fled the country.

Africa is vulnerable to terrorist groups largely due to its increasing poverty and official corruption. The continent is also struggling with instability-giving free pass to terrorist groups to pursue their hate agenda against the West. The terrorists posed as investors-but in reality they are not.

World isolated leaders like Yahya Jammeh of The Gambia wouldn’t hesitate to embrace such so called Arab terrorists posing as investors.  The Gambia Government issue business certificates to investors without proper background checks.  In situations like this, one cannot be assured that the Jammeh Government is not “welcoming the bad guys” in our country.

Fighting terrorism should be everybody’s business. We strongly condemn the actions of the Nigerian terrorist. The world would be safer in the absence of such enemies of freedom. God bless the United States and her people.
