Jammeh's Murder Squad On Illegal Cannabis Trade

Sanna Majang, Malick Jatta And Others Exposed

By Staff Reporter James Jammeh, Banjul

The Freedom Newspaper has learnt of the involvement of key allies of the Gambian dictator, Yahya Jammeh, in drug pedalling. These men are believed to be from the murderous brigade of the Gambian leader who are often seen around town driving tinted glass vehicles that bear no registration number. According to information received by this reporter, these men have taken advantage of the status quo and deal in the trade of cannabis. They transport the illegal product from the Fonis to the Kombos.

According to sources, key among those identified are Captain Sanna Manjang, Malick Jatta and WO2 Modou Jarju - alias Rambo.

''They behave as though they are above Gambian laws. It is no secret that they are only answerable to the authoritarian leader who makes no effort to hide the fact that he empowered them more than any other legal security unit in the country,'' remarked a clearly angry police officer.

It is an unwritten law that vehicles easily identifiable as from State House, tinted with no number plate, are never stopped or searched by the Gambian police as they are always believed to be on the services of the Gambian dictator. These vehicles which are a common feature of the Gambian leader's convey are often seen plying the roads, mostly in unacceptably fatal speed.

According to this police who said he feels obliged to let the whole world know about the treacherous and callous attitude of Gambia's leader, alleged that all these men do in their frequent shuttling between Kanilai, the president's home village in Foni, and the Kombos is transporting cannabis. He said that there are special middlemen who take care of the distribution into the general public.

He added, ''The National Drug Enforcement Agency does not have the audacity to go and apprehend these dealers. Not just because they have the support of the dictator, but, more importantly, for fear of their lives as these people, as dangerous as they are, have tacit licences to kill.''

"We want the wider world to know that apart from killing people, they are also involved in drug trade, and that their support base is from Yahya Jammeh who call himself a true Muslim and a believer. He knows about this, but instead of acting he goes about talking nonsense over the state media.''

Freedom Newspaper confirmed this story with some military sources who would not elaborate further on the issue. They however stressed their shared views that it must end now before it's too late.

''They are not above the law and would be accounted for whatever they do by the Gambians as changes could come at any time,'' a military officer said, and he added, ''in this country people are now more than ready for change, because they are tired of this lawlessness.''
