Says Dire Consequences Await Detractors!!!

As Gambia In Motion Television Series Hit GRTS

By Staff Reporter Bakary Gibba, Banjul

Gambia’s President Yahya Jammeh says dire consequences await members of the country’s security forces—including dissidents who might be contemplating overthrowing his Government through forceful means. Mr. Jammeh issued the warning during a primetime new television program on GRTS dubbed as “The Gambia in motion” Thursday, which is being presented by the erstwhile television anchor Fatou Camara.

The new television series is aimed at highlighting Jammeh’s developmental programs such as: Agriculture, Education, Environmental Protection, Health, Trade and other areas of national concern. Jammeh warns his detractors by saying that any attempt to destabilize the nation’s democratic process would be mercilessly crushed.

"My administration is here to promote peace and security at all times. We are going to crush anyone who wants to undermine the peace and security of this country. We are ready for anything to sustain the country’s much cherished peace,” Jammeh vowed on Thursday.

Mr. Jammeh then offered an olive branch to his detractors living in the country, by urging them to consider settling elsewhere outside the frontiers of The Gambia to avoid being dealt with by the state. He warns that his administration would employ zero sympathy for people bent on disturbing the nation’s peace, security and tranquility. Jammeh observed that  the best thing for such people to do is to leave the country. This he says, would save them from being crushed by his Government.

Jammeh’s lengthy speech broadcast on The Gambia Radio and television services was full of outrage. He is apparently threatening the country’s military—including political opponents whom he deemed as a threat to his Government. Mr. Jammeh openly brags about his Government’s military might and capabilities of defeating detractors bent on undermining Gambia’s ailing democracy.

“I am calling on all Gambians to embrace each other and work as a family as well as to take part in the development of the country for the benefit of all rather than to engage in something that would not yield any fruits,” Jammeh said.

Mr. Jammeh who is afraid to travel outside The Gambia—amidst increasing fear of being toppled by the army,  called on the country’s military to be discipline and avoid actions that might undermine the army’s reputation. He said his administration would not condone indiscipline in the army. He says national security is paramount and he as the President of this nation is duty bound to jealously safeguard the country's peace.

The producer of “Gambia in motion” documentary Fatou Camara used to work with the United States Embassy in Banjul prior to setting up a media PR agency. Jammeh used the documentary to settle political scores with perceived enemies, as well as promoting the image of his battered administration.
