Guinean Junta Leader Expected In Banjul Thursday

President Maitre Abdoulaye Wade of Senegal, last evening arrived in Banjul, as a special guest to his Gambian counterpart President Yahya Jammeh, on the occasion of the country's 45th celebrations. The Senegalese leader who was accompanied by a high powered delegation was received on arrival by the Gambian leader, Speaker of the House, and the Vice president.
After the usual ceremony at the Airport, the two leaders later proceeded to the VIP Lunge before taking to the streets of Banjul through the main highway linking the Airport to the capital city. They were seen standing in the vehicle waving all over as a sign of mutual respect and understanding between the two countries.
The visiting Senegalese Head of state told reporters that his visit is in line with the nation's 45th anniversary of nationhood saying that both countries shared a lot in common, and based on that he has to honor the invitation extended to him and his delegation by the Gambian leader on this important event.
Mr. Wade once again renewed his commitment in further cementing the already existed bilateral ties between the two countries.
In a related development, the leader of the Guinean junta General Sekouba Konateh is expected to arrive in the Country today Thursday February 18th 2010 at 830 am, and would be received by the Gambian Leader.
A release from the president’s office urged all those who are interested to welcome the Guinean Leader to be at the airport at least half an hour before the arrival time of the Guinean President and his delegation.
