Gambian Swipes At Gambian Leader—Accusing Him Of Undermining Tourism

By F Ceesay, UK

Dear Mr. Editor,

As a concern Gambian citizen that living in The UK, it is with profound disgust to read the garbage that was themed by the president Jammmeh on our country 45th independent anniversary. Before going further may I at this juncture categorically affirm that nothing that this man say does not represent majority of Gambian citizen. I left The Gambia in 1996 immediately after the first election, and ever since this president has cling on to power without any realistic date liberating back this country.

Paradoxically, the president wants the same British people he is bashing to still visit the Gambia as tourists.

Tourism:

Mr. President, it is almost late for you to woo economically useful tourists like the British to visit the Gambia while you still remain at the helm. That is why Gambia Experience, The Gambia’s most successful and constituent supplier of British and Irish tourists to our country have launched The Senegal and Cape Verde Experience – a replace to that of the Gambia. All this is being done to in fear of them not wanting to lots their long – term loyal customers.

By the way, both Senegal and Cape Verde Experience venture are proving to be successful at the detriment of our beloved country – The Gambia. This president thinks sacking or changing personnel at the tourism ministry is the solution. No! No! I think what this president should do id to do us all a favour and go as he has overstayed his welcome and go now. Where are people like Sheikh Tijan Nyang, MBO Cham, Ebrima Lowe and others who know what tourism is all about? With no disrespect to Fatou Mass – Jobe Njie, I don’t think she is the panacea in this obstacle; rather she is going to be one of the join the list has been for Yaya Jammmeh.

This president forget that the British that are coming in recent times have done so much and is still doing for individuals and organisation in our country, by uplifting their lives. To name just a few, Michael Scales, Dida Halake…and countless others that build schools in villages that sometimes our pen pusher quangos hardly reached, individuals that British people often sponsor to educate themselves – both at home and sometimes abroad.

Schools:

We have heard it all before, whenever the president senses that he is out of favour with the Gambian populace he always repeat this same mantra on blaming the British for the predicament our country is in. can I please remind this president that he is educated in a school that was built by the British – The Gambia High School.

Security Personnel:

Well what can I say, especially to the junior military personnel, the hope of the liberation are placed on your shoulder. Do the right thing – if you feel what is happening in our country is not justice, and then the ball is in your court. It is now clear to all mankind that this man will not go easily. Don’t be one of those people who will always be in the camp of Had I Known. History is right in front of you to be made in a positive way. Let me tell all these senior military personnel will never do anything to remove this monster, that why I am appealing to you. Support is right behind you.

Gambians:

To Gambian people, especially the oppressed don’t worry destiny is on your side. Especially to those who are oppressed.

Regards,

Yours Brother in Agony,

F. Ceesay
