Major General Drammeh’s Services “Prematurely” Terminated

 Military Mutiny Imminent In Gambia!!!

By Staff Reporter Bakary Gibba, Banjul

The second man in command of Gambia’s Armed Forces was told late Saturday afternoon that he does not need to report to Work on Monday, as his services with the military has been terminated with immediate effect, the Freedom Newspaper can authoritatively report. Deputy Chief of Defense Staff Major General Yankuba Drammeh, on Saturday, received some officials of the National Intelligence Agency, Gambia’s main spy body at his Banjulnding residence, who handed a terse letter to him from the President’s office—prematurely terminating his employment with the army, sources here said. The letter does not state any reason for the Presidential directive, although it advised General Drammeh to refrain from reporting to work with immediate effect.

Major General Drammeh was recently arrested, and demoted to the rank of private, before he was fired from the military—amidst allegations that he was implicated in a coup plot led by the erstwhile Army Chief General Lang Tombong Tamba. He was reinstated barely less than 24 hours after the Government announces his removal from the military—this time, he was elevated to the rank of Major General.

Drammeh’s unfinished nightmares with the Jammeh Government reaches its climax this past weekend, when NIA operatives arrived at his Government allocated house in Banjulnding, in the Western Region of  The  Gambia to convey a Presidential directive that he was no longer needed in the army. Mr. Drammeh, had just completed his “Zuhur prayers” at the material time, and was chilling with his family when the news of  his premature termination was conveyed to him.

The errand NIA officers executed the mission without an incident. Mr. Drammeh accepted his removal in good faith, as he comported himself responsibly throughout his encounter with the visiting NIA agents.

A senior Army officer who spoke to our reporter confirmed the dismissal of Major General Drammeh. The officer said he was not surprised about Drammeh’s sacking saying “ we saw it coming.”

According to the army officer who wished not to be named for fear of losing his job “ Drammeh suffered all kinds of torture during his first arrest, and his reinstatement was a mere cover up on the side of the President to baffle the situation.”

The officer  said almost every soldier in the army today is upset with the status quo, and warns that the day of reckoning is getter nearer. He said the President has lost the confidence of the military, and is being perceived as an “enemy” of the very people protecting him.

“ After making up allegations that Drammeh was part of a plot to unseat him, he took a 100 percent U turn, and recanted the accusations by reinstating Yanks. Here was an officer who was physically tortured while in detention by junior soldiers.  How on earth, did he expect this guy to be loyal to him? Ogaa is sick, and we shall cure him soon. He thinks he is smart, but there are brains in this institution. We are watching the movie closely. We shall see who would emerge as the winner at the end of the day,” the army chief said.

The army chief informed the Freedom Newspaper that Yanks was reinstated into the military—while under close surveillance by the NIA. The officer said Drammeh “have not committed any offence that would warrant his termination from the military.”

Currently, a score of top army officers, including prominent businessmen are being detained at the nation’s maximum prisons Mile Two without trial. The detainees have been placed on state custody since November of last year. The state is yet to file any formal criminal charges against the security detainees.
