Gambia’s police chief Essa Badjie, has been dismissed with immediate effect, the Freedom Newspaper can reveal. Inspector General of  police Essa Badjie was  fired alongside with the Navy Commander Royal Admiral Sarjo Fofana, authorities said. The decision to send the officers packing was reached before close of business Tuesday, sources told the Freedom Newspaper.

A statement broadcast on state radio announced that both Badjie and Fofana have been dismissed with immediate effect. The release also states that Sarjo Kuluteh of the military police has been sacked. LT. Famara Jassey, Deputy military police commander has been dismissed.

Both Essa Badjie, and the fired military police boss Sarjo Kuluteh were instrumental in getting the erstwhile army chief General Tamba arrested. The two recruited Tamba’s inlaw to spy on him, and later make up stories that the army General was plotting to overthrow the President.

In a related development, Mr. Yankuba Sonko the former police crime Management Coordinator has been appointed as the acting IGP, while Famara Jallow,  who was sacked from the police force has been reinstated and appointed as the acting DIG, our sources said.

Lieutenant Colonel Sillah Kujabbi has been  appointed as the new acting Navy commander—replacing Sarjo Fofana, who had his services prematurely terminated . Also among those  sacked was Major Mamatary Secka, GAF Training school instructor, said our sources.

This paper was also reliably informed that some other top officials in other sister forces were also among the causalities of the recent developments. We would keep you posted as the situation unfolds.

Unconfirmed reports say the former police chief Essa Badjie was briefly held Tuesday, released, and later rearrested. This report could not be independently confirmed, but sources said there is bound to be a major changes in the country's forces in days to come. Reports also suggest about the reformation of the NIA.  The President is considering disbanding the NIA, and rename it, sources said.
