Sources say Mr.Njie’s resignation was as a result of an alleged acrimonious relationship between him and IGP Ousman Sonko, whose competence is being questioned within the rank and file of the force. Sonko according to sources lacked knowledge about basic police duties and never wanted to listen or buy the ideas of the old guards within the force. He used to work with the military and for some reasons the President decided to deploy him to the police force, a field his critics say was completely new to him.
DIG Njie used to head the serious crime unit of the Force prior to his promotion as deputy IGP. Njie also served the defunct National Security Services, the (NSS) under the First Republic.
