Two officials of the National Drug Enforcement Agency (NDEA) have been arrested after they were accused of selling cocaine to a man, who was handcuffed this morning at the Serre Kunda police station, authorities said Wednesday. Drug squad officer Bakary Gibba (not the Freedom Newspaper reporter), and Kalilu Beyai are currently under detention—pending the completion of the investigations of the cocaine sale allegations leveled against them by the arrested drug delaer whose name is yet to be established.
Mr. Bakary Gibba was the personal driver of the detained former NDEA boss Bun Sanneh, sources said. The men have been implicated by the drug dealer, who told investigators that he bought the “COKE” from Gibba, and Beyai.
The confiscated cocaine has been transported to the NDEA main office in Banjul for weighing in a bid to determine the quantity of the drug consignment, sources said.
In another development, the notorious drug dealer in Bakoteh one Mr. Manjang, who is a personal friend of Interior Minister Ousman Sonko has been arrested. Mr. Manjang is being detained over drug trafficking allegations.
It has been gathered that he was using Interior Minister Ousman Sonko, and IGP Essa Badjie as a shield to sell drugs in the country. Many a time drug squad agents would attempt to raid his home, but upon his apprehension, Sonko, and Essa Badjie would gave directives for Manjang to be released.
It was Ousman Sonko who facilitated the employment of his wife Amie Jabang into the police force. Madam Jabang's promotion was facilitated by Essa Badjie, after he Badjie received D10,000 dalasi inducement from Manjang. Badjie, and Manjang dine together on a daily basis.
Meanwhile, Interior Minister Ousman Sonko, and IGP Yankuba Sonko are on tour in the Farafenni region. Sources said Sonko has been aiding and abetting drug dealers such as Manjang over the years. He has also been accused of socializing with female police officers whom he sexually harassed.
Sonko, according to sources is increasingly worried about his fate because of the potential implications of the revelations to be released in days ahead by the Freedom Newspaper. This paper has a special file on Sonko, and it would be released in due course. For more on this story stay tuned. More scary revelations are to be released.
