By Staff Reporter Bakary Gibba, Banjul
Following the declassification of a confidential letter that was sent to President Jammeh by George Gomez, a sports official, in our Friday Edition, the head of state has reacted angrily, by ejecting the Secretary General and Head of the Civil Service Mariama Kahan, from the State House, who has been moved to the Personal Management office (PMO) with immediate effect, the Freedom Newspaper can report. The raging President was not happy with the leakage of the letter, some of its content was published on the Freedom Newspaper.
In a terse statement issued Friday, the President’s office announced the redeployment of Secretary General Mariama Khan to the PMO. Ms. Khan has been replaced by the erstwhile SG Njogu Bah. The Government decision to send SG Khan packing was premised on section 168 of the country’s constitution.
Mr. Bah, the self proclaimed PHD holder was recently moved to the Works, Communication, and Infrastructure Ministry, where he served until his recent reinstatement as Secretary General.
"I shall never work for this government”, says a highly educated Gambian who preferred not to be named. The president has made himself too conscious of the positions he gives to people, as he thinks it is for him alone. We are all part of the Gambian society and we need to play our part," another Gambian said.
State house sources said Mariama Khan refused to be used for corrupt practices by the President, which led to her removal from the State House. She kept low profile throughout her appointment.
“ The President needs sellouts such as Njogu Bah to run his criminal cartel for him. Mariama would be the last person to steal for him. Mariam is not his match. It is a question of time for the President to fire her,” said our source.
