The most dis-Espoused and unscrupulous member of the Jammeh dictatorship is named in a high profile wife scandal. Our sources close to the distasteful Ousman Sonko, the despicable minister of the Interior, disclose of a simmering wife-beating debacle leading to the escape of his second wife - GRTS Reporter Njemeh Bah is on the run. Njembeh, is reported to be contemplating to file for political asylum in the United States, sources said. Her marital abuse case even came to the attention of Gambia’s women rights groups, but due to her husband’s influence and close ties with the President Yahaya Jammeh, no one  here dares to pick up the case, even the police, which is expected to serve, protect citizens, and bring offenders like Minister Sonko to book, sources familiar to her case told the Freedom Newspaper.  

According to reports, Njemeh has, about five months ago, managed to escape from the murderous Ousman Sonko after a series of battery incidences, and in some cases, Ousman chasing her in the streets with his car. At some instances, eye witnesses saw the violent Ousman Sonko attempt to hit her with his car, while she was running for her dear life. According to credible sources, Njemeh has on several occasions showed her terribly battered body to her colleagues at the television. Many of them had long warned her to seek way out of the situation but because of the death threats by Ousman, she exercised utmost caution to avoid Ousman suspecting her escape plans. GTRS insider confirmed that Njemeh Bah is a victim of domestic violence and abuse.  She relates her marital abuse story to trusted friends, family members, and core workers.

Sonko Assigned Officers To Assault His Wife

Minister Sonko's torture of Ms Njemeh Bah started around the beginning of 2006,  when she was a rookie at The Point newspaper. At that time, Njemeh was believed to be dating both Ousman and another man simultaneously. Sources close to the couple indicate that the ignominious Osman Sonko (that time IGP), one night sent plain clothes officers to mercilessly beat Njemeh Bah, as she came out of her boy friend's house. The Unsuspecting media community went gaga on a frenzy of defense of what they thought was initiated as a result of her journalistic work. This was far from being the reality.  This was a case of a spousal sponsored banditry.  The pair had a history of domestic violence, and Minister Sonko thought that the best way to avenge his anger against Njemeh was to assign some plain clothes officers to attack Mrs. Bah. 

Njemeh’s association with Ousman Sonko, while serving as a freelance reporter with the Point Newspaper at the same time,  sparked a sea of speculations  within the country. Many believed that Mrs. Bah was assigned to spy at the Point Newspaper, where she worked before the brutal killing of its founding Editor Deyda Hydara. But Njemeh maintains that she joined the Point because of her passion for independent journalism.

Later on, Ousman used his influence and closeness with Momodou Sanyang of the GRTS to secure her a job there. Luck came his way to finally get her accept his hand in marriage. But according to sources privy to the activities of the couple, Ousman soon started his over-controlling and jealous attitude.

A mere secondary school drop-out, Ousman lied in his CV to indicate that he got a Senior Secondary certificate in the early '90s, when that system was not systemized in the country's education yet - one wonders what senior secondary he is talking about in his CV. Thus, he was taken by inferiority complex and sense of insecurity by Njemeh's high intellectual standing coupled with her beauty and popularity amidst the glare of television cameras.

At some point, some people had to call Ousman anonymously to threaten him to leave the woman alone especially when her class and beauty transcends his murderous standing. These however caused more trouble because Ousman thought Njemeh was the one using such people (whom Ousman regarded as her boyfriends). He would beat her until the whole of her body is full of cuts and wounds. Some of her colleagues at GRTS have attested to the fact that she was always distressed and seriously wounded on her body.

But by dint of providence, he sent her to the USA in order to have his child born there. Upon her return, and wary of her slim chance to be free for once, people close to her warned her of the fact that Ousman murdered Almamo Manneh, Corporal Dumbuya which he bragged about, and was capable of doing the same to her. So they warned her to be extra cautious to avoid similar fate. She hatched her plan secretly and returned to the USA with her son. Upon arrival in the USA, she demanded a divorce. And as it stands now, the marriage between Ousman Sonko, a notorious womanizer  within the army ranks, and Ms Njemeh Bah, is no more. Ousman is said to have vowed to kill Njemeh when he lays hands on her.
