Barley less than six months, following his appointment as the Solicitor General at the Attorney General’s office, former magistrate Pa Harry Jammeh has built a multimillion dalasi house in Koli—amid official corruption, and abuse of office perpetrated by the number two man at the AG Chambers, judicial sources told the Freedom Newspaper. Pa Harry, as he is fondly called here in Banjul, amassed his luxurious Kolili property from dubious “kickbacks” he received from drug cases, and the auction of individual properties, sources familiar with Mr. Jammeh’s organized corruption scheme intimated.
Due to his family ties with President Jammeh, Pa Harry on numerous occasions used Mr. Jammeh’s name in a bid to pursue his monetary, and leadership dreams. He operates outside the dictates of the law—and in some occasions he received “kickbacks” during the sale of public properties through Government auction programs, sources said.
Pa Harry has sold ten landed properties in the recent past, but the sale of these properties were questionable. Sources said Pa Harry published his personal cellular phone number in the Daily Observer, each time there is an auction sale of public properties. He uses his position to reach a deal with local Real-Estate dealers such as one businessman called Njowl.
Since his appointment as Solicitor General, Pa Harry has received millions of dalasi worth of “kickback” from these Real-Estate dealers, who induced the novice “CHECKBOOK” lawyer to acquire auctioned properties at a giveaway prices, sources said.
President Jammeh bestowed “high trust and confidence” in Pa Harry. That is why he Jammeh paid for part of his tuition fee while he Pa Harry was attending law school in the United Kingdom, sources said. But Pa Harry is departing from the trust bestowed on him by the Head of State. He is using every available opportunity at his disposal to amass wealth—be it legitimate, or illegitimately.
According to sources reaching the Freedom Newspaper, the state should consider investigating the ten properties Pa Harry sold at a giveaway price. It has been gathered that Mr. Jammeh is on the payroll of these influential Real-Estate dealers, who bribed him in the past to secure properties for cheap prices.
“ If the state wants to get to the bottom of the truth on this matter, they should look into records of the auction sale. Pa Harry is a fraud. He has been using his position to amass wealth. There is no way that he can build a multimillion dalasi house in Koli from his salary. He should be investigated,” said our source.
Pa Harry Receives Kickbacks From Drug Cases
When the state announced to amend the drug law, many at the time thought that this was a “positive step” in the right direction. But on the whole, there was more to the story. The brains behind the amendments were out for a sinister plot—that’s to pursue their monetary dreams.
Pa Harry Jammeh, Chief Justice Agim, and former Inspector General of police Essa Badjie should be thankful to President Jammeh for having benefited from the drug law amendment.
The trio had received millions of dalasi from drug dealers through the so called plea bargaining “Kangaroo” court held at the offices of the National Drug Enforcement Agency (NDEA). Essa Badjie was tasked with the responsibility of collecting the “kickbacks” from the drug dealers, whose cases were dismissed. It has been gathered that 90 percent of the funds derived from plea bargaining goes into the pockets of Pa Harry, Justice Agim and Essa Badjie. The state received only ten percent of the proceeds, sources said.
Justice Agim, who served as Director of Public Prosecution prior to his elevation as Chief Justice used to enjoy a “mutual” relationship with former IGP Badjie. Agim calls Essa Badjie “ the Mighty Essa.” Mr. Badjie was being used as an “economic pawn” by Pa Harry and Agim, sources said. Badjie conspired with the two to “kill” drug cases even whereas there is evidence available to prosecute the drug dealers.
Pa Harry Jammeh met Justice Agim at the University in London, where they developed friendship. The two are carbon copies. They shared common characteristics. They put material wealth ahead of professionalism.
Meanwhile, our sources are asking the following questions:
· Who is running The Gambia? Pa Harry Jammeh, or President Jammeh?
· Why is Chief Justice Agim calling Essa Badjie the Mighty Essa?
· Why is the state using Essa Badjie as a scapegoat when Pa Harry and Agim are equally dirty as Badjie?
· Why is Pa Harry Jammeh having his direct cell phone number on the Daily Observer auction sale ads?
· How is Pa Harry Jammeh able to built a multimillion dalasi house in Koli within six months of his appointment as Solicitor General?
· Having served less than seven years into The Gambian Bar, how is Pa Harry Jammeh able to rise to one of the most prestigious positions at the AG Chambers—under the capacity of Solicitor General?
According to sources Pa Harry is also claiming that he is going to succeed President Jammeh in the too distance future. How he intends to go about the succession process is a billion dollar question, but he (Pa Harry) often brags about his closeness to the President, sources said. Pa Harry is widely feared in The Gambia.
Attempts to reach Pa Harry Jammeh and Justice Agim for comments proved futile. The men were indisposed for comments.
