Justice Jobarteh Exposed!!!

By Staff Reporter Malang Jammeh, Banjul

Three Dutch Nationals arrested at the Banjul International Airport with cocaine were made to pay D 3 Million dalasi (three million dalasi)  to the National Drug Enforcement Agency (NDEA), but on the agency’s finance paperwork record it reflected that the accused persons paid D400,000, the remaining two million dalasi was shared among the accused persons lawyer High court judge Lamin Jobarteh, former NDEA DG Bun Sanneh, his Deputy Karomo Bojang, and NDEA former Operations Director Ousman Sanneh, the Freedom Newspaper can report.  The cocaine case in question was being handled by NDEA Commissioner Neneh Sowe, who is currently on vacation. She is the officer commanding NDEA airport unit.

Lawyer Jobarteh, who was recently hired by the President as a high court judge, used to handle all drug related cases at the NDEA. The Holland nationals were advised by their attorney Lawyer Jobarteh to plead guilty to the charges, but on the ground that they the (accused persons) must pay D3 Million dalasi to the plea bargaining court held at the NDEA offices. The Dutch nationals agreed, but three quarter of the paid funds were pocketed by Jobarteh and the NDEA officers, said our sources.

There is no evidence suggesting that Commissioner Neneh Sowe benefitted from the corruption scheme, but sources said the NDEA command at the time underreported the monies they collected from the Dutch drug dealers.

“ We challenge the President to order for the records of the said case to be provided. The paperwork shows that the men paid D400,000 dalasi when in actual fact they paid D3 million. They were made to pay each one million dalasi. The money was shared among Jobarteh, Bun, Karomo and Ousman Sanneh,” said our source.

Neneh Sowe, has been temporarily replaced by former Immigration agent Sergeant Jatta, who was elevated to the rank of a Commissioner until her return from her vacation. It is reported that she  might as well be laid off.  Sources said she has been  linked to corrupt practices at the airport.

But with these revelations, she could be a vital witness in this corruption scandal involving Lawyer Jobarteh, now a high court judge. Justice Jobarteh recently financed the construction of the Bansang police station. He extended similar financial help to the Brikama police station in the past. He also donated computers and office equipment to the Gambian National army recently.

Mr. Jobarteh could not be reached for comments at press time.
