Yahya A.J.J Jammeh

President Of The Republic of The Gambia

Banjul, The Gambia

 Dear President Jammeh,

It is with great honor and privilege that I get to write to you again. I say again because I have once written to you before but for security reasons, I will not disclose my identity but I open my door to build a father- Son relationship with you.

To commence, let me begin by wishing you, the Jammeh family and the people of The Gambia a blessed Ramadan Mubarak. May Allah the merciful forgive us all for our sins as no man is perfect. Having said that, the reason that I decided to write to you again is that this time around, I will ask too much of you again. Left to me alone Mr. President, I will contact you personally and have this discussion with you but given the fact that I have no other ways to get in contact with you, I decided to use the Freedom Newspaper.

Sir, ever since I was a child born in the late 80’s like many of my age mates in Gambia, I grew up under your government with my parents supporting and working under your guidance.  Both my parents were devoted servants to your government like many other families and gave their all for their country. But like I said to you before, in a bag of groundnuts, there are rotten ones that tend to spoil the other good ones once they come in contact with them.

At some point in your government Mr. President, you surrounded yourself with the best brains and most genuine people ranging from Managing Directors to Ministers in your cabinet.  During this period in time, people had the utmost respect for your government but then, the vultures that were cast offs wanted to closer to you. These were and are still the very people that want to see your government come to an abrupt and bad ending. What I want to pray for you in this Ramadan is that given the that fact nothing last forever and your government will one day end just like how it had a graceful beginning, I wish it has a happy ending for you, your family and the people of The Gambia. I want you to reach or surpass the statue of President Mandela. I want you to be Gambia’s Madiba.

But Mr. President, being an educated young man and someone that has been on your side without you knowing me from day one, someone that has been on your side defending you through good and tough times without you knowing me , I am begging you to release the ageing Femi Peters and the guilty coup plotters of 2006 and 2009.

Why am I begging you to do such a thing?  Sir, look at it from this point of view. You have been the leader of Gambia from 1994 to 2010. If they the coup plotters tried for 16 years to remove you undemocratically from power, they can never do it again.  The people of The Gambia have loved you from day 1 your Excellency but releasing these people will make people reserve a special place for you in their hearts because then you would have shown everyone that though these foolish people wanted to take away from you what Allah (SWA) gave you, you still came out the bigger person and forgave them.

Believe it or not, people don’t want these people to lead this country and we still want to be under your guidance and leadership until the near future.  The near future being what? Mr. President, or if I may call you with your permission Dad,  I don’t want you to go down the same path as President Jawara. He stayed in power too long to realize that absolute power corrupts absolutely. Someone once told me that if you are going out, go out on a high and leave your mark that people would remember you forever. That is why I want you step down from the Presidency by 2020 and choose the person that you feel is the right person to lead the country and take over from where you left off.  But for now, you are President of The Gambia there is nothing that anyone can do about it. The opposition has every right to oppose you and your ideas just like how the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) had people opposed to him. It’s ok to have that.  But what is important is to bear in mind that as long as you have the almighty on your side, all the rest doesn’t matter.

Therefore President Jammeh, from the bottom of my heart, please release these people and forgive them in the month of Ramadan. Remember that with great power comes great responsibility. Among 3 million people, God chose you for a reason. Rule well Mr. President and always remember to have God on your side no matter what. But until then, may the Almighty protect you, your family and the people of The Gambia.  I hope one day that my wish will be granted and I will meet you someday.  Ramadan Mubarak!
