Gambia: Ramadan Is Gambia’s Last Chance For Change—Koukoie
Ramadan Is Gambia’s Last Chance For Change—Koukoie

RAMADAN MUBARAK TO ALL GAMBIANS

By Koukoie Samba Sanyang, Contributing Writer

Dear Fellow Gambians let us know that Ramadan is our last chance to change. If we have already created a meaning for our Ramadan, it’s never too late to improve it. Oh dear Gambians Ramadan means the month of getting closer to our Lord Allah the creator. We have to get to bow down, humiliate ourselves before Him, cry to Him and feel safe again. We should feel His presence everywhere. We have to get to laugh with Him and thank Him, Al Kareem, for everything He has blessed us with in our lives. Alhamdulillah.

In this Holy month of Ramadan with the great sacrifices and fasting, may the brutal bursts of rapture subside, and may your bodies be the lotus submerged and surrounded by the cool water of Allah’s bliss permeating your bodies with a pure bright awareness.

Ramadan is the month of Quran, repentance and worship. Duaa (supplication) and promises are made to our Creator. The gates to Jannah are open; the gates of hell are shut. Ramadan is the month every Muslim wishes to achieve through fasting and lots of prayer. Ramadan is a month of purification in every meaning of the word.

Oh fellow Muslim brothers and sisters let us remember that we are born to make manifest the glory that is within us. Ramadan should be very personal to every one of us and it should be a month of struggle and must change positively everybody.

“What will this month bring for us this year?” I wonder. I am fully aware that Ramadan is a psychological state that helps us do things we normally won’t do outside the holy month. Like regularly visiting the mosque, calling friends and family to wish them a blessed month and doing extra charity. Life has become so hectic that sometimes we need a holiday, a month, to dedicate to these small, yet important things. Sadly, for some people Ramadan has taken the meaning of overeating and more overeating.

As true Muslims we should acknowledge and be aware that the Islamic duty of sacrifice and fasting should remind us that simple living (voluntary simplicity) not something obligatory is a Muslim right. It is a lifestyle in which individual Muslims consciously choose to minimize the more-is-better pursuit of wealth and consumption for a variety of reasons, including spirituality, health, and increase in quality time for family and friends, stress reduction, conservation, social justice or anti-consumerism all living Allah’s way of life.

Living a simple life in the month of Ramadan with all those sacrifices involved is distinguished from those living forced poverty or waste as it is a voluntary lifestyle choice.

As a sinner I am asking for the forgiveness of all Gambians and so do I forgive every human being created like me, for one can never know where he or she has offended his or her fellow Muslim brother or sister.

May Allahu Akbarr bless all of us and answer to our prayers! Ameen!

DURING THIS HOLY MONTH OF RAMADAN LET US ALL BE PRAYING FOR ALLAH TO OPEN MORE GATES AND CREATE MORE AVENUES FOR US DURING THIS STRUGGLE AGAINST TYRANNY IN THE GAMBIA. MAY ALLAH LISTEN TO OUR HEARTS AND MINDS LIKEWISE HELP GUIDE US TO A BETTER PATH.

He knows what is hidden and what is exposed. He knows what is in our hearts and minds. He is "Aaalim Kullu Shay'inn"! I am kneeling before HIM as His slave asking for his support, blessings and guidance with strength, health and intelligence.

I WISH ALL GAMBIANS LONG LIFE AND SUCCESS IN YOUR ENDEAVOURS TOWARDS THE BETTERMENT OF OUR PEOPLE AND NATION. MAY ALL YOUR EFFORTS PAST AND PRESENT BE TURNED INTO A GOOD REWARD FOR THE GAMBIA AND ITS PEOPLE.  MAY ALLAH GRANT ALL GAMBIANS JANNAH.
