....................................................................

Pa,

I have just been informed from Banjul about a fatal accident that happened this morning and resulting in the dead of two staffers of the National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC). They were on their way to Kanilai to join other female staff of Government Ministries, Public Enterprises, Quaisi-Government, Qcell, Gamtel, GIA, SSHFC, GPTC, GRA, GPA and NGOs who were all summoned to take part in the weeding and planting exercises at Yaya Jammeh’s Farms totally disregarding whether we are in the holy month of Ramadan or not.  This is an all women affairs- the majority of them are married but had to abandon their husbands and families- to answer to Jammeh's call during this holy month only to work for free at his farms. The dead Lady's name is Marie Mendy (Mrs Johnson). She is the elder sister of Major Peirre Mendy, who is currently serving  25-years jail term, following the 2006 attempted coup.

They were travelling on a pick-up truck that somersaulted just as they were entering Kanilai. There are others who received serious injuries and are currently admitted at the Intensive Care Unit IC unit of RVTH. The vehicle was among a convoy of vehicles from all the parastatals carrying staffers. It was  behind the GIA' vehicle upon entering Kanilai and mysteriously somersaulted. Staff of GIA were first on the scene helping victims to be transported to Yaya Jammeh's Hospital in Bwiam. They (The GIA female staffers) had to continue their journey to Kanilai, where they are right now weeding Jammeh’s  farms.

This is the situation at the moment. I shall come back to you with details.

May God bless Gambia.!!!
