VP NJie Saidy Warns Soldiers To Stay Away From Coup!!

Says Dire Consequences Await Treacherous Officers

Gambia’s Vice President Isatou Njie Saidy has warned the country’s security officers, who might have harbored plans to destabilize the country to chill because she said the Jammeh administration would not condone such unconstitutional acts. Speaking at the National Security Council Meeting,

attended by Service Chiefs, the Vice President said the Government of the day would crush any attempt to dislodge it from power through forceful means. She made the statement barely few months before the country’s Presidential elections scheduled next year. 

The Vice President wants to see a professional armed forces, well equipped, disciplined, and committed to defending the nation’s territorial integrity. She said the security of the country lies in the hands of the different security

outlets within the country. She said officers hatching treacherous intentions against the establishment would be dealt with. She emphasized that the Jammeh regime would not compromise with anyone who wants to destabilize the country for the sake of destabilization.

The VP also calls for a more action oriented security forces—committed to   the promotion of peace and stability. She said anything outside such expectations would be deemed unacceptable.

Interior Minister Ousman Sonko reaffirmed the Vice President’s statement. He said the relied on the security forces, and they should exceed the expectations of the citizenry by delivering the goods. Mr. Sonko said his Department is committed to providing the necessary logistics to the various security agencies—with the view of making their work much easier.

Chief of Defense Staff Masanneh Kinteh, Inspector General of police Yankuba Sonko, Immigration Chief Buba Sagnia, have all reaffirmed their commitments in jealously safeguarding the country’s much cherished peace. They promised to work in partnership to nurture stability in the country. Also in attendance were senior Government functionaries.
