The Governor’s office in Nebraska said the recent award of “Honorary Admiral of the State Navy of Nebraska” that was extended to Gambia’s iron fist head of state Yahya Jammeh, indeed came from their end, thus ending doubts, and speculations over the “authenticity” of the much celebrated award by authorities in the impoverished West African country. The confirmation came in the heels of state sponsored showdown in Banjul to showcase the much celebrated award that was extended to The Gambian leader by the Nebraska Governor, through the International Parliament for Safety and Peace (IPSP) Organization. IPSP officials presented the award to Mr. Jammeh—amid growing Internet debate—amongst the subscribers of the privately owned Gambian mailing list—called The Gambia Post. Opinions were divided over the "authenticity" of the Nebraska award, which warranted an investigation mounted by this paper’s editor. The award is indeed from the Governor’s office.

George Reiff, the designated ambassador of the IPSP to The Gambia, disclosed that President Jammeh has been the vice president of the organization since 2008, according to the pro-Government Daily Observer Newspaper. "We are also bringing a honour from the governor of Nebraska in the US, who appointed President Jammeh as the Honorary Admiral of the State Navy of Nebraska in US and this comes upon his good work and good deeds, which is a sign of diplomacy," he added.

On Friday, we reached Jennifer Rae Hein, Communication Director at the Governor’s office in Nebraska, to throw light on the story, who confirmed that the award was extended to The Gambian leader, following a nomination by Dr. Nasser Heydarian.

“He was nominated by Dr. Nasser Heydarian of San Francisco, California. It appears Dr. Heydarian is an Admiral in the Nebraska navy, as well. When we get requests for Admiralships from Admirals, those are approved,” said Communication Director Jennifer Hein.

According to Ms. Hein, the Admiralships are not for sale. She said there is no special relationship between the Governor’s office, with President Jammeh, and the IPSP officials.

“Please note the context of the Admiralship – it is a certificate to be an “Admiral” in the fictional “Navy” of the landlocked state of Nebraska. There is no relationship with this person or organization and the Governor’s Office. The Gov. does not have a position on these issues. International issues are handled at the federal level of US Government, not at the State level,” she noted.

Jennifer Hein’s Response

Hello.

Thanks for your e-mail. I am working to verify this.

Basically, Admiralship requests are submitted to the Governor’s Office. Someone must have asked for this Admiralship. I will see what else I can find.

Thanks,

Jen Rae

Thanks Jen for the prompt response. I look forward to hearing from you on this story. We will put it on hold, until we have an official response from your end. Thanks once again, for the timely response. Have a great day.

Another response from Jennifer Hein Confirming Jammeh’s Award

Hello.

Yes, he was named an admiral last month. There were a few hundred admiralships approved last month.

He was nominated by Dr. Nasser Heydarian of San Francisco, California. It appears Dr. Heydarian is an Admiral in the Nebraska navy, as well. When we get requests for Admiralships from Admirals, those are approved.

Thanks,

Jen Rae

Editor M’Bai Demands More Answers From Jennifer

Thanks for the info: I have the following questions:

I went through your official website. Does President Jammeh posses the following qualifications for the award?

1.The Nominator or Nominee must be a resident of Nebraska.

2. Requests nominating self will not be honored.

3. Those who are nominating persons for Admiralships will need to send the request by U.S. Postal mail or present it to the Governor’s Office. E-mail requests will not be accepted.

4. All requests must be in writing.

5. If the date for the Admiralship is not specifically requested, the received date will be used on the certificate.

6. The Governor retains full discretion for any Admiralship requests.

7. The Governor's Office requests notice of 2-3 weeks to process Admiralships

What is the Governor's office view on the state of human rights in The Gambia?

What does this award mean for The Gambian leader?

What is IPSP’s relationship with the Governor's office?

Is this award for sale?

What happened if IPSP is using it for monetary gains?

Communication Director Jennifer Hein shed light on M’Bai’s Questions

Pa,

Perhaps you are misunderstanding about Admiralships. There are thousands of persons nominated and named Admirals every year. As I stated previously, this person was simply nominated by another Nebraska Admiral and therefore named an Admiral. Admiralships are not for sale.

Please note the context of the Admiralship – it is a certificate to be an “Admiral” in the fictional “Navy” of the landlocked state of Nebraska.

There is no relationship with this person or organization and the Governor’s Office. The Gov. does not have a position on these issues. International issues are handled at the federal level of US Government, not at the State level.

FYI - I see on Wikipedia, this person is also a Kentucky Colonel. They have a similar program there.

Best regards,

Jen Rae
