During the second series of our exposure of dictator Jammeh’s secret killing of Gambians, and firebombing of media houses, we missed an important portion of the revelations made by the self confessed  killer, who claimed that he and his colleagues in the army were assigned by the Gambian despot to kill former spy chief Daba Marena, and four other security detainees back in 2006. The killer, who is on active duty, is a member of the Kanilai Security Patrol Team, headed by General Bora Colley. The killer said Daba, and co were never involved in an automobile accident as falsely claimed by the Government.  “ We escorted them from their prison cells in Mile Two, and later killed them at a place in the outskirt of Kanilai. The President Yahya Jammeh instructed us to execute the detainees,” said our source.  Below is the transcribed audio interview we had with the Kanilai Patrol Team Member.

Pa,

The case of Daba Marena, Lt. Ebrima Lowe, Sergeant Malafi Corr, Warrant Officer Alpha Bah, and Lt. Alieu Ceesay, is a sensitive one. It’s a top state secret, and I have to be mindful about how I relate the story to you to avoid being traced.  I’m a living witness to what happen to Daba, and co.

Executing the mission to kill Daba, and others was a difficult task. Two of the executed men used to be part of our patrol team in Kanilai. In that, I’m referring to Lt. Alieu Ceesay, and Sergeant Malafi Corr. Malafi Corr, was a black, black.  Those of us, who execute secret killings for the President are called black, black.

Therefore, when the President issued directives to murder our former colleagues Ceesay, Corr, and others, there was nothing we could do, but to execute the order.  Alieu Ceesay, was a trained Commando.  Ceesay, Corr, Daba, Bah, and Lowe were murdered in cold blood.

The Government came up with a false press release—stating that these people escaped while being escorted to prison in Janjangbureh. We just laughed over their naked lies because the President himself knew what happened on the day in question. He (Ogaa) President Jammeh instructed our team members notably Malick Jatta, Sana Manjang, and others to “finish” Daba, and co to paraphrase his expression.

The late Tumbul Tamba, used to be our commander, but now Borra Colley is commanding the patrol team stationed in Kanilai. Daba, and co never escape from custody.  They were murdered by our men.

I could vividly remember when our men picked up  Daba, and co from their prison cells, and escorted them to Kanilai. The executions were carried out in the outskirt of Kanilai.

Due to security reasons, I cannot divulge the exact location where these people have been buried (dumped). I know what our men are capable of doing.  It would not be in the best interest of the Gambia to disclose at this hour where Daba, and co have been dumped.  I’m using the word “dump” because their execution was so brutal.  I cannot describe to you what happen on the day in question due to fear....it’s unspeakable.  It was a gruesome murder so to speak! I could not imagine that we could treat our own former colleagues like dogs.

For your information, prior to the execution of such killing missions, the President will make sure that our men are well fed, and taken care of monetary wise. The majority of us are drunkards. We smoke cannabis, and drink alcohol before hitting the road to confront people on the President’s list to be murdered, or tortured.

We had a slogan here in Kanilai, which we read out to people lined up to be killed.  The slogan reads “ WE WILL KILL YOU IN THE INTEREST OF THE GAMBIA.”

I could also remember when our team killed one Dawda Nyassi,  a rebel from Casamance.  The murder was executed under President Jammeh’s directives. Dawda Nyassi, used to live in Liberia at some point.

Pa, so many things had taken place in this country. I mean secret murders, tortures, and abductions. I’m privy to a lot of information.

Talking about the Casamance rebels, I want to inform you that I personally met Salifu Sarjo in Kanilai.  He had a telescope weapon in his possession at the material time. Our men patrol the border, and occasionally carry out secret killings for the President.

In regards to the widely believed notion that Kanilai is militarily equipped, Pa, I can tell you with certainty that there are no major arms in Kanilai. The majority of the arms are in Banjul at the State House.  We had few artillery weapons here in Kanilai.

If we are under assault today, I can bet that we cannot withstand a 24 hours intense fighting. There are no weapons in Kanilai. We only had a few heavy weapons, which we do not have enough ammo for it. This is the true story about our security status in Kanilai. Our level of preparedness in the event of an attack is weak. This is largely due to loyalty issues.  Many of us felt betrayed by (Ogaa) President Jammeh.

Iran used to supply us with arms, and they have cut off ties with the Government. Some of our men benefited from Iran’s military training.
